menthol and eucalyptus to help maintain a healthy respiratory system. Maintaining optimum growth rates is

paramount if calves are to grow to reach 60% of mature weight at puberty at around 13 months. Crystalyx Heifer 730 helps improve forage intakes and digestibility to keep heifer growth on target. In trials at Aberystwyth University, heifers fed the blocks grew 15.2% faster than the control group, reaching bulling weight on average 40 days sooner. In situations where flies and biting

insects cause stress and reduce grazing behaviour, Crystalyx Heifer Garlyx Grazer helps protect heifers by acting as a fly repellent. The range includes two products

specifically formulated for use during transition. Transition Dry Cow is fed in late pregnancy.

It ensures cows maintain better

appetite up to calving, have a strong immune system at calving while ensuring optimum calf health and vigour. Transition 100 is formulated to stimulate appetite in fresh calvers through to 100 days in milk, reducing negative energy balance and the risk of ketosis, and helping improve fertility. “In independent trials conducted on five

commercial farms by Dr Peter Ball, feeding Transition Dry Cow followed by Transition 100 resulted in 8 fewer days to first service, 21 days shorter calving to conception interval and 25% more cows in calf at 100 days. The infertility culling rate was reduced from 12% to 3%,” Dr Lister reports. “With dairy farmers having to challenge

everything they do, the new range offers a proven way for them to do dairy differently and meet the challenges they face head on.”

FARMERS SET TO BENEFIT FROM LAUNCH OF NEW COMPLETE NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT

RANGE In a bid to help support farming livelihoods more sustainably, Carr’s Billington has developed an own-brand range of premium quality nutritional supplements. Founded on the need for a more

simple and effective means of ensuring animals have what they need when they need it, the complete range of feedblocks, powdered minerals, and mineral and feed buckets have been specially designed to help address the wide range of production challenges faced by beef, sheep, and dairy farmers at different times of the year.

Chrissie Smith, mineral and feed

supplements product manager at Carr’s Billington, says the new Vitamix, Vitalyx and Vitablox ranges are testament to the company’s team and their longstanding relationships with farmers. “The technical team have worked

closely with farmers to develop a solution based range, bringing together the latest proven technology, capable of further supporting livestock growth, production and reproductive performance,” she explains. “We’ve also taken a positive leap

forward in terms of sustainability with this new range, manufacturing the products nearby using high quality ingredients that are sourced locally wherever possible.” These nutritional supplements are

intended for supplementing grazing, silages and home-grown feeds, making better use of what’s grown on farm whilst balancing forage deficiencies. “Farmers have the option of choosing

between three ranges which are most appropriate for their systems, livestock, and business goals”. The Vitalyx mineral and feed bucket

range, can be offered to livestock as free access, providing a continuous nutrient supply 24/7 on a little and often basis, which is a cost-effective and time-efficient means of supplementation. The Vitamix powdered mineral range

is also available as free-access or in-feed, helping to ensure all key micronutrients are supplied at the correct levels to maximise stock performance. They are also pleased to announce this has been packaged using at least 30% reclaimed plastic. Finally, Mrs Smith explains the Vitablox

feedblock range is packed with key nutrients including Sulphur, B vitamins, chelated zinc, and organic selenium. This also contains locally sourced Scottish distillers’ dark grains as well as Carr’s Billington’s own rumen by- pass protein, AminoMax-M™ incorporating British rape. “Fundamentally, our new complete and

yet streamlined range of products have been developed to help fulfil livestock nutrient requirements during vital periods within the farming calendar, such as tupping time and autumn calving time. “As a business, we also want to help

our customers continue to achieve their goals while also working towards a more sustainable future. Providing products from sources they can trust is a critical part of this,” she concludes.

ASTAREAL PRESENTS HIGH- QUALITY FEED INGREDIENT

BRAND NOVASTA® AstaReal is launching its astaxanthin brand NOVASTA®

for antioxidant-rich pet food and

feed supplements in the European market. With its high content of natural astaxanthin and additional valuable carotenoids, proteins, carbohydrates and essential fatty acids, the wholesome ingredient supports optimal health and nutrition for a variety of animals. Astaxanthin is nature’s most powerful

antioxidant. Derived from the microalgae species Haematococcus pluvialis, science has proven that it has wide-ranging benefits for muscles, eyes, the brain, immune system and much more. As it is suitable for all animals, including pets and those in competitive sport, agriculture and aquaculture, AstaRal believe that the market opportunities for NOVASTA® are vast. For instance, it supports mobility,

endurance and muscle health, as well as attentiveness, weight management and eye health in pets. In studies, the addition of astaxanthin formulations to dogs’ diets has been shown to increase antioxidant activity and liver function as a result of improved lipid metabolism, and enhance shininess and overall quality of dog fur in just six weeks. It also helps regeneration in horses by

supporting recovery from exercise-induced muscle damage as a result of either dressage or high-performance racing. For farmers, safeguarding animal health

is key to achieving the highest possible yield from cattle, pigs, sheep, poultry and other livestock. NOVASTA®

supports productivity

in agriculture by encouraging improved fertility, better growth during suckling, more successfully hatched chicks and stronger immune defence for overall health. Moreover, NOVASTA®

ensures optimal

growth, health and pigmentation in fish and crustaceans. It also allows aquaculturists to use fewer fish-based products, as it is derived wholly from algae, which means close-to- nature nutrition as well as environmentally sound aquaculture. Microalgae-derived astaxanthin

represents a sustainable and naturally sourced feed ingredient with excellent eco credentials. In addition, it is easy to combine with other nutrients for a wide array of innovative animal products such as dry and wet food, powder mixes, extruded snacks, soft chews, flakes, tablets, softgel capsules and liquid solutions.
