A Caring Christmas College pupils make Christmas special for vulnerable children Cardiff Sixth Form College donate gifts to Starbucks campaign
Students at Cardiff Sixth Form College are about to put smiles on the faces of some of South Wales’ most vulnerable children after donating 150 Christmas gifts They took part in a Secret Santa collection for Barnardo’s Cymru organised by Starbucks coffee shop in Shand Mansions, Newport Road, Cardiff. It was part of a gift appeal for Barnardo’s run by the Magic Bean franchise which has a number of Starbucks across South Wales. Katie Lawrence, Head of House at the private college, said: “We wanted to do something to make our students aware that a lot of young people are not living privileged lifestyles. We feel it is important for them to contribute to those less fortunate.” Bryony Holland, manager of Starbucks, Newport Road, said: “Our franchises have set a target of collecting 2,000 gifts for children who might otherwise have nothing this Christmas. We feel it is part of our responsibility to help the community.” The students’ gifts will be distributed to vulnerable children and young people who use Barnardo’s Cymru services in Cardiff and the Vale. Sarah Crawley, director of Barnardo’s Cymru, said: “We are very grateful to the students. Christmas can be a difficult time for some of our children and young people and some of them have had a very challenging year. “It is good to know that thanks to the students’ generosity they will have something special to open on Christmas Day.” There is still time to take part in the Starbucks Secret Santa appeal. Just look for the Barnardo’s Christmas trees in store, choose a gift tag on the tree and buy a gift for the child whose name is written on it.
