Mary Immaculate High School’s lay chaplain, Tony Mills and the Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation group he is a member of, FIT4YOU, have been raising money to buy defibrillators in Wales. Tony was walking home from a Cardiff rugby match for the European Championships when he suddenly collapsed on Quay Street earlier this year. Tony was found to have multiple heart problems including arrhythmia and clearly having suffered from a heart attack in the past that he didn’t even know about. They fitted Tony with a pacemaker and from then onwards he was on the road to recovery. Tony said, “I decided to really change my life, so I changed my diet and I started doing exercise.”

With the help of his son who is a newly qualified doctor he was able to change his diet for the better, and by joining FIT4YOU, a Phase IV Cardiac rehabilitation group that meet in a school hall in Whitchurch, he was able to do exercise that suited him. They have gone on to fundraise for the community

to have defibrillators in

Lisvane Tennis club, Llanrumney Boxing club, Eastern High school and also one for FIT4YOU.

Recently they organised a sponsored walk around Roath Park that Tony was a part of and they raised enough money for four defibrillators for the community. Tony requested a defibrillator for St Patricks Primary School, the school he not only went to as a child but also a feeder school to Mary Immaculate.
