Professor Morgan Appointed to Regulatory Board

Cardiff Met faculty member, Professor Brian Morgan, has been appointed to the independent Regulatory Policy Committee (RPC). T e RPC is an independent body sponsored by the Department


of Business, Energy and Industrial


Strategy. T e board provides the government with external, independent scrutiny of new regulatory and deregulatory proposals and is responsible for a number of items such as ensuring the government’s estimates of costs and benefi ts to business as a result of regulation are accurate. It also settles disputes between non-economic regulators and businesses with reference to the new guidance on accountability for regulator impact. Professor Morgan, who is currently Professor for entrepreneurship at the University and director of the Creative Leadership and Enterprise Centre, joins four other new appointments to the RPC, including Laura Cox, partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers; Stephen Gibson, professional economist and regulator; Andrew Williams-Fry, regulatory economist and government aff airs professional; and Sheila Drew-Smith OBE, member of the Committee on Standards in Public Life and Chair of the National Approved Letting Scheme. T e new appointments have been made following an open recruitment process and in accordance with the Ministerial Governance Code on Public Appointments. Appointments to the RPC are made by the Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Industrial Strategy in line with the OCPA Code of Practice.


Celebrate Its Inaugural Flight to the Welsh Capital To celebrate the launch of Qatar Airways’ inaugural fl ight to Cardiff , the capital city of Wales, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, hosted a press conference at T e Principal St David’s Hotel, Cardiff . T e press conference was hosted by Rt. Hon Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales and Mr Roger Lewis, Chairman of Cardiff Airport. Also in attendance were honorary guests, H.E. Mr. Yousef Ali Al-Khater, Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the UK and H.E. Mr Ajay Sharma, British Ambassador to the State of Qatar. At the press conference, H.E. Mr.

highlighted the award- winning airline’s commitment to bringing more travellers to Wales, and to connecting the people of Wales to its extensive global route network via the award-winning Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha.
