‘Adopting

Together’ Together with our Voluntary Adoption Partners in Wales we are launching this initiative focusing on providing sustainable, loving homes for those children who have been waiting the longest and could be in long-term foster care.

Children aged four and above, sibling groups and children with specific needs are all looking for a special family who will provide them with the love and attention they dearly need.

If this is something you have been considering, pick up the phone and begin your journey. Contact Us on 02920 493387.

“We had already decided that we would prefer a national adoption service, and our research suggested that Barnardo’s could provide the best support through the process and in the longer term. “Having read books about other gay people’s experiences in adoption, we were unsure as to how we would be viewed. However, from the fi rst informal discussions to the support we receive now that our children are with us, our experience with Barnardo’s has been positive. “T roughout the matching process, which can be bewildering, our Barnardo’s support worker and the wider team provided tremendous support to help with our decisions. We now have two children, aged three and four. “T e support remains as sound as ever and we know it will be available to us for many years to come.” - Sara

Steve and Shane’s adoption experience

Barnardo’s Registered Charity Nos. 216250 and SC037605 19363dos17

Aſt er 20 years together, Steve and Shane decided it was the right time to provide a loving, stable and happy life for a child. Steve had always wanted to be a dad. He dreamed of taking his son to watch his favourite football team play on a Saturday. T e couple considered surrogacy at fi rst, but decided they wanted to improve the life of a child who hadn’t had the best start. Barnardo’s was recommended to them by a friend. Once approved, they were soon matched with their four year old son Richard*. T e loving, adoptive parents cannot imagine life without their son. Steve said, “It’s a wonderful feeling being called daddy, I love him so much.” *child’
