Bid to make Cardiff sparkle
Cardiff BID announced a six-month deep-cleaning programme to ensure chosen parts of the city sparkle, starting this month on Queen Street.
As part of the wash up, businesses will be able to suggest any areas to be cleaned via Cardiff BID’s team of Street Ambassadors. Suggestions will be used to inform a weekly programme of work for the cleansing team. The initiative is being rolled out following feedback gathered by the Ambassadors that parts of Cardiff are beginning to look unkempt. The cleansing team will be sprucing up the streets, painting kerbside furniture, getting to work scraping off posters or stickers, removing grease and taking away waste.
Executive Director of Cardiff BID, Adrian Field, said: “Appearance and cleanliness is so important to businesses as it’s what brings their trade through the doors. We’re delighted to be able to offer this additional cleansing, keep making sure Cardiff is as clean as possible and ultimately, help out the businesses in the BID area. “We’re starting with Queen Street but we will move to other areas across the city based on where the Street Ambassadors are getting the most requests. If the project is a success, we will extend the programme for a number of years.”
Established in November 2016, Cardiff BID covers 130 streets across the capital city stretching from Principality Stadium to Newport Road and Butetown to Cathays. One of the largest BID areas in the UK comprising over 950 levy payers, the deep cleansing project is just one of the many programmes the BID has planned for their fi ve- year strategy to make the city more welcoming, vibrant and infl uential.
The team of Street Ambassadors will be visiting businesses in the coming weeks to collect requests and begin putting the project into place. For more information on Cardiff BID, visit:
