Recycle Your Cycle and Change a Life

Britain’s biggest bike retailer is collecting second-hand bikes at selected stores across the country, helping to divert landfi ll waste and change lives. Many of the children’s bikes donated go to prison cycle facilities Halfords has set up, where offenders are taught new skills to repair the bikes, the aim being to provide them with improved opportunities on release. The re-conditioned and fully checked bikes are

then donated, along with new helmets, to disadvantaged schools across the UK.

Other suitable bikes are donated to the Company’s charity partner Re~Cycle who teach people in Africa how to repair and maintain the cycles, providing employment and improving lives in a sustainable way.

Merlin Matthews, the founder of Re~Cycle, said “The bikes we receive through donations really do make a huge

difference. They allow for life changing transport opportunities in rural communities, as well as benefi tting existing programmes in education, health and homelessness. We couldn’t donate as many bikes as we do without the support of Halfords and their drop-off locations. They provide a vital logistical network across the UK so people in all regions can support Re~Cycle by donating their unwanted bikes.”

All bikes that are in a reasonable condition will be accepted provided they are complete with no cracks in the frame and less than 25% rust. To fi nd out which store accepts bikes in your local area, go to www. halfords.com/re-cycle1. If your school would like to apply for re-conditioned bikes, go to www. halfordscompany.com/ responsibility/community.

Admiral Taverns calls for local ‘Pubpreneurs’

Leading community pub Group hosts ‘Wales Open Days’ in the hope of attracting more people to consider a career in the pub industry Admiral Taverns, the UK’s leading community pub Group, is hosting two open days in Wales in a bid to encourage aspiring pub licensees across Wales to consider a career in the pub industry. The two open days, will provide a chance for would be pub entrepreneurs to learn more about the opportunities available to them to run their own pub business and take on an exciting venture in their local area.

At both open days Admiral will be offering the opportunity to meet with local Business Development Manager Phil Mardon and will be showcasing a number of pubs available across Wales, including Cross Keys in Llantrisant, Farmers Arms in Swansea, Mountain Ash in Merthyr Tydfi l, Sea Beach in Swansea, Church Inn in Bedwellty and Swan Inn in Cardiff. Award Winning pub

company, Admiral Taverns takes a unique approach in the sector, championing community pub operators and empowering them to run their own pub business to the best of their ability. The Group’s team of highly experienced business development managers know the pub industry and the local area inside out and work hard to build supportive relationships with their licensees, helping them to optimise their business, introduce new elements to their pub offer and put their pub forward for the Admiral investment programme. For potential licensees who are completely new to the industry, Admiral Taverns has launched the Business Support Agreement, which provides fi rst-time

pub entrepreneurs with bespoke training, support and a portfolio of products over the crucial start-up period. The experiences of the industry demonstrate that too many businesses fail because new licensees are not given the level of support and guidance they need in the crucial early months to set them on a path to long term success. The BSA covers the vital fi rst months, but starts well before the licensee steps over the threshold of their fi rst Admiral pub. The Admiral Taverns open days will take place on Tuesday 22nd August from 11am - 4pm at The Village Hotel, Swansea, SA1 8QY and Wednesday 23rd August from 10am-3pm at The Village Hotel, Cardiff, CF14 7EF.
