Free BT work placements to help youngsters in Cardiff
BT is offering free work placements
to help
young people in Cardiff get ‘work ready’ and prepared for their future careers.
The 15 day course, combining
work experience
hands-on with
coaching and training is open to anyone aged 16 to 24 not currently in education,
or training. Work placements
employment are
a great opportunity for people to build confi dence and learn practical work skills such as CV writing and interview techniques. Although the course does not carry a formal qualifi cation, attendees are given a certifi cate showing their attendance and
to demonstrate commitment

prospective employers. The next
course starts
on Monday, October 16, 2017 and will be held at BT Stadium House in Cardiff. For more details or to apply visit www.
bt.com/workready. The fi rst week of the course is mainly offi ce based and focuses on building and developing practical work skills. This is followed by a week ‘on the job’, shadowing employees and getting hands on experience of the working day. In Cardiff
this will be an
opportunity to work alongside engineers from Openreach, the business responsible for Britain’s largest phone and broadband network, as they build and maintain millions of miles of fi bre and copper cables that connect every home and business in the UK to local telephone exchanges. The fi nal days of the work placement is spent doing mock interviews and a day assessment as well as developing an individual plan of the next
steps
to fi nd employment or return to education. Alwen Williams, director for BT Cymru

Do you have spare time on your hands and a desire to help others? Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is currently looking for volunteers to support their expanding Meet and Greet Service at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. Support is needed at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales’s main reception and on Gwdihw Ward where meet
and
greet volunteers provide a warm, welcoming service to our youngest patients, visitors and Health Board staff. Volunteers help by: • Making patients, the
general feel welcome
our young visitors and public by
signposting, directing and accompanying their destination

• Reassuring anxious young patients or visitors who may be lost or unsure where to go • Assisting with general enquiries and providing an information service Time commitment varies for both roles, further information is available on request.
