usiness Recruitment

A 53 year old RAF veteran from Port Talbot is set to begin the next chapter in his career, returning to work after 23 years unemployed thanks to the support of Coastal Housing Group. After six years in the RAF, Paul Robbins, who lives in Margam, had to give up work after suffering from epilepsy, PTSD and anxiety. A Coastal tenant for over 18 years, Paul spent over two decades battling anxiety which was only diagnosed as PTSD fi ve years ago. Paul recently read a Coastal newsletter to tenants offering help to those unemployed and, after years out of work, eventually plucked up the courage to contact the housing association to seek advice on getting back on the career ladder. Speaking of the fi rst steps, Paul said: “When I picked up the phone to Coastal and spoke to Clare Watkins from the employability team, I immediately felt at ease. We arranged a meeting where we discussed my situation and medical history, and looked at ways of easing me back into the work place. Due to being out of work for such a long time, I was feeling anxious and nervous about starting a new job but Coastal supported me throughout the whole process.” Following his meeting

Major fi nancial recruiter to create 100 jobs in Cardiff

Specialist executive fi nancial services recruitment company, Hamlyn Williams, is creating 100 new graduate jobs in Cardiff thanks to backing from the Welsh Government. The company, which will be based in Capital Tower, already has offi ces in London, New York, Hong Kong and Dubai, and has chosen the capital city of Wales as its newest hub. Hamlyn Williams’ focus is on corporate governance and front of house positions in the mid to senior position level. The company will join a fi nancial and professional services sector that employs some 136,000 people across Wales. Wales won this considerable inward investment thanks to opportunities offered by the fastest growing sector of the Welsh economy, beating signifi cant offers from South Africa to locate this sizeable offi ce. Wales is already home to Admiral and Go Compare, while international companies such as Deloitte and Arthur J Gallagher have enjoyed rapid growth since establishing bases here. Cardiff University and other academic institutions now offer tailored fi nancial services degree courses designed to equip young people with the necessary disciplines in the fi nancial and professional services sector and there are now a number of courses backed by major fi nancial companies that will create a very highly trained graduate work force for this sector. Economy Secretary Ken Skates said: “We have a lot to offer to fi nancial and professional service sector businesses. We have already attracted big-hitters like Deloitte to Wales, and I am delighted to welcome Hamlyn Williams to join the list of prestigious companies who have enjoyed growth and prosperity here.” Founder and CEO of Hamlyn Williams’ Nick Vaughan said: “Cardiff is the ideal place for us to begin our new chapter. The University will supply a strong feed of dynamic young graduates who will bring their enthusiasm and energy to our company.”

enhanced his skills in telephone operating, problem sorting and fi nancial operations. Coastal’s Digital Co-ordinator Nigel Lewis then assisted Paul in improving his computer skills, setting up a professional email and eventually building his CV. Following Coastal’s support and advice, Paul, who lives with his wife Tracy and 21 year old son, was referred to Workways; an organisation that tackles the barriers preventing individuals from fi nding employment. Workways supported Paul with interview techniques and taking the fi nal steps in applying for a job. Since working with the two organisations, Paul has successfully secured a job with ASDA in Pyle, working in the produce department. Digital co-ordinator Nigel said: “We’re so proud of Paul’s achievements. It takes a huge amount of courage to get back into work after such a long period unemployed and dealing with issues of anxiety and low confi dence. Paul threw himself into the training and his hard work paid off. We wish him all the luck at his new job.” Coastal Housing Group’s employability and skills programme is available to all tenants looking to secure employment or enhance their skills.
