Support Keep Wales Tidy during the Grow Your Tenner campaign
Keep Wales Tidy is calling on the people of Wales to help it gain extra funding through Localgiving’s Grow Your Tenner campaign. All funds raised will go towards the continued work of Keep Wales Tidy and its volunteers. The campaign launches at 10am on the 17 October and will run until the match funding runs out (or Thursday 16 November - whichever comes fi rst). Supporters can help by making a donation during the campaign. Donors can support Keep Wales Tidy in two ways:
• Set up a monthly donation and after your fi rst six donations, the following six donations will be matched up to £10 - providing us with over £200 in funding. • Make a one-time donation and it will be matched up to £10. For a one-time £10 donation with Gift Aid, Keep Wales Tidy receives £21.67! Richard Phipps, Regional Manager Central East at Keep Wales Tidy said: “2017 has been a busy year for us so far, we have supported over 14,000 volunteers remove 4,200 tonnes of waste from communities and green spaces. Grow Your Tenner provides a brilliant opportunity for us to bring in funds and engage with our supporters. All donations make a huge difference and, with the added bonus of doubled donations, we hope the people of Wales will get involved and support our passionate volunteers to help keep Wales beautiful.
Even an additional £100 of funding would enable us to organise an event to clean up a community.” To help Keep Wales Tidy benefi t from match funding, please visit their Localgiving Page after 10am on 17 October:

inevitable that the battery will decrease as time goes by. However, even with a low battery, it’s still possible to enjoy a certain productivity from your device. Online smartphone retailer,
Mobiles.co.uk, has been looking into the biggest battery drainers and how effi ciency is impacted over time. Andrew Cartledge, Mobile Expert at
Mobiles.co.uk, said: “Even now, it’s tough to go any longer than a day without needing to charge your battery. Although technology is getting more advanced, making the most of your battery life is still somewhat dependant on user management. The key to the most effective battery life is to look after your device – which can be harder said than done when you don’t always know what’s draining the juice.”
Mobiles.co.uk share their six top tips on how to prolong your battery life when you’re running low on charge, without sacrifi cing too many of your smartphones great features.
IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERE Just as when we get too hot we become tired, so does your smartphone. When your smartphone is left in a place where the sun is shining on it, or in a hot car, it heats up which can damage the battery. By avoiding warm areas, your phone’s battery may work more effectively and last longer. DIM FOR THE WIN Our eyes are extremely intelligent, and can adjust to different light and brightness, which we should use to our advantage - especially since maximum brightness on your smartphone is one of a battery’s biggest daily drainers. By turning the brightness down (or opting for the recommended ‘power saving’ level) it’ll help

take some of the glare off your eyes, and you will also notice your battery will last much longer. CALL TIMEOUT It happens to us all - we’ve been on our phone, thought we locked the screen, and realised several minutes later that the screen never locked. In fact, you’ve left a lengthy and confusing voicemail to your mum. Not only do you have to explain your voicemail, but your battery power has also decreased. To save from this happening again, enable the ‘screen timeout’ option on your smartphone. When you’ve stopped using your phone, the ‘screen timeout’ will automatically lock your phone after a certain amount of time (you choose the period). This not only saves your battery power, but also stops any embarrassing voicemail messages. IMPORTANT NOTIFICATIONS ONLY This tip not only helps your battery life, but also your productivity. You’re hard at work when you receive a notifi cation from Facebook telling you it’s someone’s birthday. You click onto the notifi cation to wish said person a ‘Happy Birthday’, but somehow end up becoming engrossed in their life and fi nd yourself two years deep into their photos. Not only is your concentration lost, but your battery power has decreased too. Instead, opt to only receive notifi cations from apps that are of absolute importance, and leave the rest for when you have some down time to manually ‘drop in’ for the latest updates. STREAMING STRAINS If you fi nd yourself running under 20% battery, but want to listen to your music, or watch a video, be tactical in the way you do it. Although online streaming is popular, it’s also super draining on your phone battery. However, by simply downloading songs and videos beforehand, and turning down the volume just a little, you can watch or listen for longer. BE WI-FI SMART Knowing your Wi-Fi hotspots is a great way to manage battery effi ciency. If you’re close to free Wi-Fi, make sure you’re connected – not only will it save your monthly allowances, but it also uses less power than mobile data. On the fl ip-side of the same coin, if you’re in an area with no Wi-Fi, be sure to turn Wi-Fi off on your device. This will stop your handset from regularly looking for Wi-Fi signal, which can be a battery drain itself.
KNOW WHAT TO LOSE As well as Wi-fi , there are numerous other things running in the background that you could do without in a battery emergency. By tuning off Bluetooth, Location Services and even Mobile Data (if you don’t presently need it), you can squeeze some extra distance from your battery. Of course you could simply select your handset’s Power Saving Mode, which will decrease your handset brightness, reduce the resolution, disable Bluetooth and Location, and limit background apps and process. Obviously this is the most drastic solution as it reduces much of your handset’s functionality, but if you’re in a pinch, it’s an advisable option.
