Bill Leaver retires

Popular hire industry character, Bill Leaver, retired at the end of September after 47 years’ service. Beginning his working life as a storeman at M&H’s Trafford Park depot, he went on to serve Hewden Stuart, Speedy, Hire Station and Brandon Hire Station as Regional Director.

With a positive, supportive man-management style and outlook,

Bill inspired a generation of hirers, customers and suppliers, improving performance, building teams and putting smiles on people’s faces, whilst making it all look easy. With a passion for Manchester United and, it has been suggested, more

than a passing resemblance to Old Trafford legend George Best, Bill says he now has further aspirations to win his first major golf tournament and to be accompanied on stage by folk musician, Finbar Furey. EHN joins other industry professionals in wishing Bill a long and enjoyable retirement.

Lynch supplies JCB mini for HS2 project

JCB’s new 19C-1E electric mini excavator is being used on a Costain Skanska Joint Venture

project at Euston, as part of the enabling works for the HS2 rail scheme. The machine was supplied by L Lynch Plant Hire, which was involved in

early evaluations of pre-production models. Director Merrill and Robert Lynch said, “We are delighted that the final

design meets hirers’ needs to sustain battery life. Indeed, it lasts a full 7-hour working day on our applications on just a single charge.”

The Preparation Group cracks the code

The Preparation Group has introduced easy-to-read ‘How to Use’ cards onto its range of shot blasters, grinders, planers, scrapers, dust extractors and tools. These step-by-step pictorial instructions are accompanied by QR codes which take users to guidance videos when scanned with a mobile phone or tablet. The company has also produced videos for its YouTube channel highlighting Health and Safety considerations. MD Tracey Glew said, “The company has recently attained its SafeHire

Certification for the third year running and Kate Walshaw, our Group Hire Manager, was re-elected as an HAE Supply Chain board member. The launch of our ‘How to’ initiative for the Group’s 110V equipment in the hire market has been a huge success, and we have now rolled it out to all of our 3-phase machines.”

Boels Rental chooses Isuzu

Boels Rental has taken delivery of a further five Isuzu 7.5-tonne rigid trucks, following an initial consignment of six vehicles in 2018 to transport heavier products. The new additions have the same specifications with beavertail bodies. “Changing our product portfolio meant that we needed larger

GVW trucks for the heavier equipment,” said Jim Field, Commercial Director with Boels Rental. “The first six Isuzus went into service and we have since been rewarded with excellent reliability, superb payload capacity and, as a bonus, fuel efficiency has been significantly better than expected.” As Boels Rental continues its UK expansion, the company

has ordered an additional two 7.5-tonners for delivery later this year.
