SCOTTISH SUCCESS

We ask a number of hirers what they got out of visiting our recent Executive Hire Show Scotland in Glasgow.

Alistair and Caren Ann Mackinnon from Mackinnon Plant Hire of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis combined their visit with a trip to collect some new equipment. “We’re a small company but we offer everything from tools and generators, to vans and plant to meet local needs. Exhibitions like this enable you to keep in touch with the industry and the latest developments.”

Thomas McLaughlan and Sandra McGowan of Airdrie-based Steadfast Site Supplies were able to explore new ideas for their growing fleet. “We’re in our third trading year now, having started selling PPE and other equipment, but now we are adding equipment and small plant, fencing and our own design of welfare cabins. We have seen a lot of interesting new products here.”

“I came to catch up with people I haven’t seen for a while and to see what’s new,”

said Gordon Small from Robert Purvis Plant Hire of Lochgelly. “We are always looking for new items to add to the fleet and meet customer demands, and it’s really useful to see what’s available.”

For Martin Plant Hire’s Willie Greig, “the Show is great because there don’t seem to be as many opportunities to see suppliers nowadays. It allows you to network and keep in touch.”

GAP’s Iain Anderson (left) placed an order with Ray Caulfield from Trime UK for no fewer than 180 X-Eco mobile lighting towers, which are designed for low emissions and reduced noise levels. This means that 80% of GAP’s total lighting tower fleet comprises machines that are specifically designed for environmental friendliness, to meet customer demand.

Alan Redpath of Duns-based Redpath Tool Hire bought every single item of equipment that Altrad Belle was displaying on its stand, including generators, compaction plates, trench rammers and pokers. “It’s important to support the Show and to give the suppliers the recognition they deserve,” said Alan, who is pictured (left) with Altrad Belle’s Bob Williams. “They take the time to exhibit here and I always get a lot out of attending. You obviously meet other hirers, too, and you can promote your own hire brand.”

Michael Baird (left) and Ian Richardson from Lord Tool Hire in Newcastle made the journey from across the border to attend. “Suppliers support us, so we’re supporting them. Scotland-based reps often call in to see us, so it’s good to return the favour. We’ve done some good business here, buying some 200A welders from MHM Plant and a number of dehumidifiers from Hire Supply Co.”
