Many work sites hiring portable sanitation equipment will require operatives to hold a Blue CSCS card - even to deliver it under the new regulations. “Large construction companies are already asking for relevant qualifications, and so will festivals such as Glastonbury, Reading and the Isle of Wight. Even small events like a local village fete will need to make sure they use operators qualified with a Blue Skilled Worker card if they plan on hiring toilets,” said Sean Whittle.
“Plans for the future would see us branching out to involve welfare units and tanker driving rather than just plastic toilets as it currently is. Being online, it is adaptable to any changes easily and cost- effectively. We can embrace future legislation as and when needed and update the course in an instant.”
To help avoid operators’ busy summer schedules, PSE is due to launch the NVQ to members later this year. Costs will be confirmed
in the coming months and, whilst they include fees for administration, assessment and certification, they will be significantly lower than traditionals NVQs, the association says.
“Other tradesmen such as bricklayers or plumbers require an NVQ and carry a blue card, but their industry would charge them up to £2,500. We’ve specifically looked at the cost to make sure people can afford it,” said Sean Whittle.
Robert Allen adds that, “The NVQ covers so many job specific details from our industry, it revolutionises the way in which we carry out our training. The e-learning will replace most of, if not all our existing training programmes and the practical demonstration provides evidence that a trainee has the required skills to carry out their role safely and efficiently.”
