As 2017 draws to a close, Rental Rate Roy provides EHN readers with a seasonal message - in rhyme.
CHRISTMAS CHEER
As Christmas time comes round once more, And business falls right through the floor, The yard is filling, the team at a loss
And Roy’s an even more miserable boss. The daily revenue drops like a stone,
Not even enough to buy the dog’s bone. How will we cope, how will we thrive Without any hire to keep us alive?
We’ll have to sell off all the fleet To pay the debts we have to meet.
But hark! It’s our salesman in from his toils Offering us up great yuletide spoils:
A one-day hire at less fifty percent
With free delivery - what a generous gent… With four months to pay, how can Roy refuse, As he retreats to his office and opens the booze.
“We’re doomed!” he cries and laments his lot As the yard is filled without a spare spot. Oh Christmas joy, oh Christmas cheer, Oh how Roy hates this time of year!
With Christmas bonuses and off-hires galore He really becomes a yuletide bore.
But bitching and moaning won’t solve the issue, Make him hush-up and hand him a tissue.
We’ve got a great team and a bit of cash in the bank So to us all, Ol’ Roysty must thank -
That we work really hard with determination and grit And tend to ignore all his moaning and ……. grief!
Because, in the end, things are not really bad So cheer up there, Roy, please don’t be sad. It’ll all go back out in the New Year
And it’ll all be forgotten and the Bank Manager will fear
That Roy will start spending on new kit once more, And things will return to just as before!
