Alan Guthrie reports on some of the latest equipment for gardening and landscaping tasks unveiled at the recent IOG Saltex exhibition in Birmingham.
STAND A50 HSC revs up HSC Machinery Spares & Consumables
highlighted the increasing interest it is experiencing in its range of Lifan petrol engines as replacements for the power units on older equipment. “We have also
teamed up with Noram, a major manufacturer of clutches, so that we can offer hirers a complete kit for easy fitting,” said HSC Machinery’s John McGhee. “Models are
available with capacities from 2.5hp to 13hp, designed to fit everything from a small compaction plate to a large floor saw.”

Easy service access is a characteristic of two new grounds care machines that were displayed by Kubota UK at Saltex. The BX 231 compact tractor is a particularly diminutive model that has similar dimensions to those of a ride-on mower, meaning it can access confined spaces more easily. It incorporates front, mid-mounted and rear power take-offs to drive attachments, and a front loader can also be fitted. The ZD1211 replaces the
ZD 326 zero turn mower. It has a slightly less powerful engine than its
predecessor, but it produces greater torque to give the same overall performance with decreased fuel consumption and emissions. On both machines, the front and rear panels open out conveniently to facilitate access to the main components and daily service points.

Avant on track
Making an impact on the Avant stand was a tracked option that can be fitted to the manufacturer’s 750 and 760i compact articulating loaders. The system is designed to replace the conventional wheels on the machines with the minimum of mechanical work. The manufacturer says that the tracks enable the machine to

be used on areas that are typically difficult for a conventional wheeled machine to traverse, such as boggy ground.

Stihl reports cordless interest
Cordless products had a dedicated area on the Stihl stand, and the manufacturer reports growing interest in them from professional landscapers and gardeners. A growing number of users are equipping themselves with these tools, alongside petrol powered models for heavier-duty work. Battery-driven tools like hedge trimmers, long- reach

pruners and chainsaws, such as the MSA 200C model pictured being demonstrated, offer advantages in operational convenience, low noise and reduced emission levels.
