The Analysis Forums

Speaking up

The considered thoughts of the members of the forums

Laurie Beagle Managing director, Forums International lauriebeagle@forumsinternational.co.uk

Our forums are built on strong foundations: l Listening to our members to hear what they want to get from being a forum member. l Collaborating with our corporate partners to understand what is new to the industry and what we should make our members aware of. l Providing reliable help and advice, across the profession, domestically and globally. lEnsuring that what we cover at each meeting is relevant and topical. l Looking to deliver subjects interactively and with input equally from subject-matter experts and from members’ experiences. l Continuing to not just deliver quarterly meetings but a community of forums that support each other. l Providing true benefits and quality that equal the time and cost invested by the members. Recently we asked key members: ‘what does attending the forums

give back in benefits?’ Below is a summary of their answers: l A member of the Pharmaceutical & Medical Devices Forum (also, a member of the Senior Credit Management Forum and SAP User Group) – Attending the three forums has, and continues to, give me many benefits from personal development and learning to greater understanding of what is happening in credit in other industries and markets, as well as a wealth of technical and best-practice assistance and insight into what systems are available to solve day to day problems. It has allowed me to move my department forward for the better or even had to solve live issues and problems we have in our existing systems, which other members may also use. l A member of the Senior Credit Management Forum – I view the forums as my essential training for the year – it keeps me up to speed with changes in credit, I can share experiences with my peers and troubleshoot issues I am coming up against, which has often given me some good ideas to take away and implement in my role. l A member of the International Telecoms Risk Forum – The benefits of attending and being a member have enhanced the way we work with colleagues and clients, and has had an impact on internal processes and procedures for achieving high-quality audit rules and regulations. l A member of the IT Distributors & Resellers Credit Forum – The tangible benefits of attending a best-practice or industry-specific forum are directly driven by the quality of the attendees and the chairperson. Done correctly and with attendees operating in full participation, it delivers a great learning environment via the sharing

of knowledge, wisdom, and experiences. It is a great opportunity to network and present your ideas while expanding, or keeping, your own mindset fresh to find solutions to problems. In short, the benefits you get are a direct result of the open-mindedness of yourself and being prepared to play ‘devil’s advocate’ with yourself and others. l A member of the Credit Professionals Forum – The forum provides a unique learning environment which can help the development of skills, provide latest news and updates within the profession, and networking and interaction with like-minded people within the profession. This can help answer questions, look at different techniques, provoke and provide solutions,

all within an informal environment that helps develop ideas only made possible by getting together within the credit forum group. The above is just a summary of the feedback received. Our last

member’s final paragraph, as follows, sums up the forums: “For the cost of an average training course, the time and effort expended, the credit forum provides a unique platform to build relationships, network, and learn with other credit professionals and companies, keep up to date, build confidence, and so it can be a win-win situation for all members.” Come along and see for yourself. It is free to attend your first meeting with no commitment.
