Embracing LEAN
Last month, CCRMagazine spoke to Kavita Gupta, head of lean in group strategic change at Arrow Global, about working ‘LEAN’, where small incremental changes every day can help transform a business, resulting in benefits for investors, clients, customers, and employees
The credit and asset management industry is coming under increased pressure to change as a result of growing competition, the emergence of new asset classes, increasing regulation, and the widening requirements of our customers. As a result, there is a pressing need to remain agile and innovative. In 2018, Arrow made a commitment to simplify business complexity and drive efficiencies through a focus on LEAN, automation, and digital transformation.
A mindset Being LEAN is a powerful way to build an organisation. There are often questions about whether it is a toolkit or a mindset, I am very keen that it is more of a mindset: it is not just a question of changing how we work, but changing how the organisation thinks; demonstrating a continuous improvement mindset by continually challenging the status quo, knowing there is always room for improvement and understanding that customer needs and expectations are constantly evolving.
As part of this, we have also been utilising
LEAN tools and methodology to review and challenge existing processes, to ensure that each step in the process adds value, and identify waste that can be eliminated. We should not underestimate the scope
of the challenge here: it requires people to stop and think about what they are doing, to stop fire-fighting and, instead, focus on
making small continual improvements everyday through identifying and addressing the root cause of inefficiency. We need people to think laterally and
