INDUSTRY NEWS

SHOW FEATURE

The event was also highly educational, with not just one but three conference theatre areas dotted around the venue, each hosting seminars every two hours. In another ingenious touch that displays thoughtful attention to detail, the conference attendees were all given smart headsets to wear so the speakers could speak quietly and not disturb the exhibitors around them and interrupt their business.

In total, just over 3,000 visitors came to see the 160 exhibitors, which made for a steady flow of business prospects.

“For an exhibitor, it’s always difficult, especially when the show is brand new, to know whether the visitors are going to attend in numbers or be genuinely interested,” said Gavin Ball from EGGER Timberpak. “It is also a very busy period for us during this part of the year, and it is hard to find the time to attend events like this.

“But thankfully, even though the footflow wasn’t off the charts, the quality of visitors, both old and new, was spot on for us. There were no people simply after freebies or with no idea of what we do. I do think it was good enough for the visitors who did attend to report back and tell other people to come along next time.”

Of course, there was an evening event for that all-important networking and socialising that greases the industry’s wheels. A £100 (plus VAT) ticket bought each of the 500 entrants a three-course meal, wine and a seat to watch some charity white-collar boxing between willing industry figures who individually raised funds through sponsorship. The event raised, in total, around £10,000 which all went to Child Bereavement UK - a fantastic achievement, and all with barely a single tell-tale black eye for the second day.

“I think the whole event exceeded expectations for a first show,” said Adrian. “I think that the footfall and the quality of visitor ensured that the show has a very positive future.

“We have said that we will return in two years’ time (and will request the same stand!) and I understand a number of other companies are similarly minded.”

“I’m familiar with Stoneleigh through previous jobs,” added Gavin. “And I have to say Letsrecycle made the venue look wonderfully professional. There was clearly considerable resource behind the show and there was, quite literally, more theatre.

“Also, Letsrecycle have been wonderful to work with. They kept us fully informed all the way through. Even though, as a first show, the look and mechanics of it were all a bit up in the air, they have been really good about keeping us informed as an exhibitor.”

It was certainly a canny move to make the show a two-year event, running in the ‘off-years’ of the biennial IFAT show in Germany. How exactly this suits the industry is yet to be seen, but there is little doubt Letsrecycle have made an enviable first impression.
