VEHICLES Skip hire company recycles its own fleet

AWARD-winning skip hire and waste management company, Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd, has been practicing what it preaches and recycling its own skip and hook loader fleet, with a major vehicle refurbishment programme.

The company, which was named Waste Transfer and Skip Hire Business 2019 at the ‘Awards for Excellence in Recycling and Waste Management’ event earlier this year, has engaged the services of another Gloucestershire based company, Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS) to give a second life to its fleet of hook loaders and skip loaders.

The project involves remanufacturing the vehicle bodies and fitting them to new chassis. Once refurbished the 13-year old vehicles will provide over 10 years of additional operational service.

Simon Allen, divisional operations manager at Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd, said: “We are a recycling company and we don’t want to waste the resources and energy that went into making these vehicles. Not only is this a more environmentally sustainable way to refresh and optimise our fleet, it is also much more cost effective than buying new vehicles.”

The five vehicles are a combination of hook and skip loaders, two of which have already been delivered. RVS’ team of engineers put the vehicles through a stringent inspection and auditing process before rectifying all defects and replacing any weak or worn parts as required. The vehicles were then re-painted prior to delivery.

Simon continued: “We have used RVS for years, mainly for hire and parts, and we trust them to do the job correctly. They have in-depth knowledge about these vehicles and they know how to do a comprehensive review.”

Hooks and skips ready to drive away, hire or buy

Refuse Vehicle Solutions Ltd (RVS) has an impressive fleet of 32t hook lift and skip loader hire vehicles. Choose from DAF or Scania chassis and Boughton, Hyva or Multilift equipment, all fitted with automatic sheeting systems. VBG coupling option also available.

Alternatively buy and drive a hook or skip vehicle of your choice thanks to RVS’ RediTruck range of brand-new in-stock vehicles. Vehicles include 18t DAF/Hyva Skip loaders or 32t Scania/ Boughton hook loaders.

TomTom Telematics launches Asset Tracking

TOMTOM Telematics has officially added a new feature to their WEBFLEET fleet management solution. Asset Tracking gives companies visibility over the position and usage of their powered assets, such as trailers, generators and other equipment.

From a single interface, the position of both vehicles and assets are displayed on a clear map view. Users can choose to be alerted when an asset is being used, when it leaves a designated area or when any motion is detected. This helps reduce both the risk of theft and the likelihood of improper usage.

Notifications can also be setup to alert the user when maintenance is required, which helps to preserve the value of the asset.

“Our focus is always on providing insight and making the working process simpler, safer and more efficient,” said Paul Verheijen, VP product manager at TomTom Telematics. “And that’s precisely what Asset Tracking does.

“The user can find out the location of each asset in seconds, whether it’s on-site or off. If they want more detail, they can get instant reports 24/7 listing current position, trip, maintenance, input and all the other details regarding how the asset is being used. And they can setup a maintenance notification based on the odometer, operating time or time since the last maintenance – whatever is most suitable for judging that an asset needs to be serviced.

“Essentially, it provides a host of functionalities that support the user to get the most value and productivity out of each specific asset.”
