The Komplet package
IN the battle of the waste management machinery, bigger isn’t always better.
When it comes to constructing crushing and screening equipment, Italian firm Komplet chose to take ‘compact’ and ‘mobile’ as their guiding principles and quickly found success in supplying machines worldwide in the small- medium range.
The nimble machines quickly found their place in the market as waste processors, demolition companies and even quarry firms soon saw the benefits of machines that could be brought onsite and save them the cost of transporting material to bulkier, heavier equipment elsewhere.
“The beauty of the machines is that they’re small but they’re quite aggressive in what they do,” explained Paul Donnelly, director of Red Knight 6 who are the exclusive distributors of Komplet machines in the UK and Ireland.
“The machines are highly transportable which is a huge benefit in terms of accessibility to sites with restricted space and access, such as inner cities or even private residential developments. With a 3.5 tonne machine on rubber tracks we can go just about anywhere. They’re built to move.”
“There are not many manufacturers out there that have a 3.5-tonne to 12-tonne
crusher with rubber tracks that you can bring on to the site. The transport costs alone are massively different.”
Of course, the savings don’t stop there. Bringing Muhammad to the mountain means these same companies aren’t having to splash out to transport their waste material to be crushed and screened of-site too. Everything can be processed and, in some cases, reused right there in one place.
“These machines allow you to decrease the environmental impact. From lower noise pollution to using less fuel, there are many benefits. On top of that, you’re also not having wagons going back and forth transporting your waste, and you’re transporting the machines on small and medium-sized trailers and lorries. The environmental impact is important but so are the decreased costs for businesses.”
Rising from the rubble The story of the birth of Komplet is actually one of ingenuity from disaster. In the mid-1990’s, central Italy was struck by a series of devastating earthquakes which left many towns and buildings in ruins.
Clean-up operations came to salvage the debris, reusing the same material to rebuild and repair wherever possible. But many companies had a huge amount of trouble transporting bulky machinery through the narrow and winding Italian streets. Into that breach stepped Komplet, creating their kit to be powerful but mobile too.
Around the same time, Paul himself was witnessing the gap in the UK market for equipment just like this. “I was having
