SKIP NEWS LSS Waste’s front end loaded investment
LEEDS-based total waste management provider, LSS Waste Management has invested over £200,000 in extending its 70 strong fleet of specialist waste vehicles – with the purchase of a Scania front end loader (FEL).
The new FEL vehicle (LSS Waste’s second) was purchased in response to a growing demand from Yorkshire businesses for permanently sited FEL bins at their premises.
Nigel Woolford, managing director of LSS Waste, said: “The growth in demand for FEL bins is directly linked to businesses seeking to reduce their carbon footprint and improve their levels of recycling.”
“It’s particularly prevalent in Leeds amongst retailers and office complexes, where the majority of the waste produced is cardboard, plastic or general waste and so is compactable and wholly recyclable.”
LSS Waste’s FEL bin service sees the company supply and regularly
empty bins left in permanent locations on
customer premises. The contents are emptied and compacted in a high-capacity container on one of its FEL vehicles, with 100% of the waste collected recycled upon return to LSS’ specialist waste handling and recycling facilities.
“The way that waste is collected is always changing and so are we,” continued Nigel. “Since forming
the business 35 years ago I’ve always believed strongly in investing to improve our service and ensure we’re ready for new or growing demands; whether it be buying in new technology, developing
new services, or adding to a fleet that is now one of the biggest run by an independent operator in the UK.”
Scott Bros makes significant investment in vehicle fleet
SCOTT Bros has invested £250,000 in upgrading its vehicle fleet as part of its long-term investment programme.
The leading Teesside haulage and plant hire business has taken delivery of two new road sweepers and a grab lorry which replace vehicles drawing to the end of their working life.
Scott Bros operate four market-leading Johnson road sweepers available on both short and long term hire from Leeds in the south to Edinburgh in the north.
The dual sweep vehicles are equipped with a super wash system, which can restore tarmac to its original state, a high- pressure lance that cleans debris from roads and driveways plus a wandering hose for cleaning out gullies.
The company currently operates a fleet of four grab lorries available for hire throughout the North East. They are ideal for the large-scale removal of waste spoil or can be loaded with a range of mainly recycled aggregates, which Scott Bros.

offers for both domestic and industrial use up to a 16-tonne payload limit.
Products include various grades of sand and aggregates, engineering clay, screened topsoil and rock salt.
Grab lorries offer a cost-effective way of removing or delivering large pay loads to and from construction sites quickly and efficiently, especially where access is limited.
Peter Scott, a director of Scott Bros, said: “We continue to make significant and on- going investments in both our machinery and vehicles to ensure this firm continues to innovate and grow its business.
“It’s vital in such a competitive market to keep up with the latest advances in vehicle technology. As a family-run company, these new additions to the fleet also underline our commitment to providing customers with best possible service and equipment.”
