Andusia signs clinical waste contract with Medisort
ANDUSIA Hazchem Treatment is delighted to announce it has signed its first clinical waste contract with Medisort Healthcare Waste Solutions.
Andusia announced its move into the hazardous waste market in December of last year, in addition to the RDF and SRF market for which it has been so well known over the past seven years. Appointing Fraser Cutting as Hazardous Waste Manager at the beginning of this year, it was also pleased to announce it is to be the sole waste supplier to a new clinical waste treatment plant in Malvern, Worcestershire from January 2020.
Medisort, formed in 2009, is an independent company specialising in small volume, multi-site collection, treatment and disposal of healthcare waste. It manages clinical waste from all types of businesses, including NHS Trusts, care homes, beauty salons, dentists and vets across the South East.
Andusia and Medisort have formed a partnership in order to supply at least 500 tonnes of clinical waste for energy recovery at high temperature.
Fraser Cutting commented: “We are very pleased to be joining forces with Medisort. Having entered into the hazardous waste market this year, this is our first clinical waste contract, of many, I am sure! We can’t wait to work alongside such a like-minded and experienced business going forward.”
Scott Bros reports increased fly-tipping on its sites
TEESSIDE-based Scott Bros. has witnessed an increase in the amount of waste being dumped on or near its sites and is reminding householders of their legal responsibilities and to be aware of rogue operators.
Director Peter Scott said incidents of domestic waste being commercially fly tipped has risen dramatically in recent months.
He estimates the amount of illegal rubbish left at Scott Bros. sites is enough to fill around 10 large skips a year and, in one incident, one man caught dumping waste hurled stones at a member of staff who went to confront him.
The latest trend involves unauthorised carriers loading bulk bags of waste onto the back of a flatbed truck before tying the bags to a lamppost and driving off - to ensure a quick getaway and reducing

the chances of being caught. There has also been a rise in the number of rogue operators undercutting the cost of skip hire by offering to remove household waste at a cheaper cost.
However, without the necessary licences, they are unable to use civic amenity sites so simply resort to illegally dumping the waste instead.
Householders are urged to check that tradespeople possess a valid waste carriers’ licence as well as the correct waste transfer notes before allowing the removal of any waste, otherwise they could find themselves facing a fine if it is traced back to them – even
if they were not the ones responsible for the fly-tipping.
