ISSUE 162

July 2019

by Richard Hollis, Editor

YEARS ago, someone once said to me that to be an environmentalist is to often be right, and yet still lose.

Many times since then I’ve felt the truth of those words. Time and time again it has often felt as though the environment is the lowest priority when different parties’ interests clash, and climate change itself was met with a lot of political suspicion and apathy for decades before it was finally accepted.

Which is why it has felt so hopeful in recent years to feel the tide really start to turn in terms of awareness and acceptance. Faced, frankly, with little choice, governments and businesses are tackling our biggest environmental issues instead of burying their heads in the sand.

For example, in recent years government subsidies have enabled the construction of many biomass plants across the UK, allowing us to largely take care of processing our own of bio-waste - a notable step forward in self-sufficiency and recycling.

Long may it continue, and may the Government follow suit with other areas of Energy from Waste production. You can find our feature on the latest in Energy from Waste on page 16.

As ever, please enjoy the magazine and don’t forget to follow us on social media ‒ we always love hearing from you!
