Sylvagen harnesses the biomass boom
WITH the WRA reporting continued buoyancy in the waste wood market (see page 11), new kids on the block Sylvagen seem to have chosen an excellent time to step into the market.
“The core of our business is based around the supply of waste wood and arboricultural residues for use as biomass fuels,” explained Managing Director Charlie Jones. “But recently we have also diversified into handling general waste from a multitude of sources for recycling and processing into Energy from Waste.”
In recent years, significant government subsidies have allowed the construction of many new biomass plants across the UK. Kent-based Sylvagen was able to harness the demand created by these new biomass plants and stepped in to provide an efficient, thorough service supplying biomass. It also supplies processed materials to panel board manufacturers and raw materials to
wood processing companies.
“Besides our domestic suppliers, we do import material from Europe,” continued Charlie. “And we also trade across Europe, moving materials between European countries. But we do not export Biomass from the UK because it has enough
demand of its own to fulfil.
“It’s hugely important to us that we are quick-reacting
and flexible. Without having a huge managerial structure in place, we are able to make decisions quickly and be readily available, which is invaluable for our suppliers and clients.
“We also have an extensive network of contacts which gives us access to a wealth of resources and experience.”
