We all know waste material processes can generate nuisance complaints, and where dust or odour is the culprit there are measures that can be taken to mitigate complaints. So how can we all be good neighbours?
Communication with neighbours is key to mitigation, and an open dialog regarding site operations and potential peaks in nuisance factors can really go a long way to reduce complaints.
General housekeeping plays a big part in site management of fugitive dust and odour. A good housekeeping regime can improve not only site perception and employee mind set, but has been shown to reduce potential nuisance.
Emission release from an open pedestrian door or roller shutter can increase the risk of release of an off site emission more than you may think.
Control measures are vital, as they act to reduce these
fugitive odours and fi ne particulate matter generated during operation. Control measures are available in a range of diff erent technologies which are refl ected in their price - for small businesses these can be cost prohibitive.
