The work continues
Brexit discussions have dominated the headlines in recent weeks, with talk of a lack of doctors, problems with pharmaceutical deliveries, and a host of other issues.
And, with other things on his mind, the Chancellor made little mention of the NHS in his recent Spring Statement, instead promising more detail on other departmental spending over the next five years.
Concept design for the Oriel building, Moorfields Eye Hospital (AECOM, Penoyre & Prasad, and White Arkitekter)
But, despite this silence, and the failure to add any more detail to last autumn’s promise of additional funding for the NHS; work is still ongoing.
Healthcare estates and facilities professionals remain at the forefront of the efficient and effective delivery of care, and in this edition of hdm; we find out more about some of this vital activity.
For example, you can hear about the very-latest carbon reduction efforts (p50), including the increasing use of Energy Performance Contracts; and find out how modern lighting solutions are helping to reduce bills and improve the environment for patients and staff (p56).

In our Washrooms section (p39), we look at how wetrooms are becoming the go- to solution for hospital patients and care home residents; with details on specification drivers and the very-latest products.
And, in our Projects section (p10), we explore the design of the new Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, which is first building in the UK to follow the Scandinavian-inspired Sengetun model of care.
Plus, there’s a focus on interiors, with details of the approach to designing a new diagnostics centre in Windsor (p10).
And, with investment in the healthcare estate on hold while Brexit discussions continue, there is light at the end of the tunnel as the care sector offers a wealth of opportunities.
We look at how a new generation of care villages is leading this expansion (p20).
