The Promo Column Hope ahead
Happier New Year – let’s hope so anyway. This month promotional products commentator, Stuart Derrick, takes a look at the new products that are going to keep us safe and prepared in 2021.
I
’m not even going to go there with any predictions for the year ahead. After discovering that Brexit was one of the most predictable things about the past year, let’s just move swiftly on. At least 2021 starts with a glimmer of hope in the form of a vaccination that is slowly being rolled out with the UK being one of the first countries to buy it. Fingers crossed that it helps us move on to better times in the year ahead. For now, though, it looks like being steady as we go. Any return to normality, in all its mundane and much missed forms, will be a gradual thing. I don’t think we’ll be binning our face masks or hand sanitisers yet.
Come in handy
So, Bio Labs’ mask case will come in handy for a little while yet. The Altrincham-based company supplies a full-colour printed zippered face mask pouch on a clip made from post- consumer recycled plastic bottles (RPET). You can clip them to a bag or belt keeping your mask clean and always to hand. As well as having plenty of room for masks you can also get in a mini sanitiser spray. It is machine washable too.

Next few months
Of course, for the next few months, work will continue to be home-based for at least part of the time. For those who are reaching their wits’ end with make do and mend in a corner of a room, there’s a need to get on to a more professional footing.

Xindao’s ABS powerbank treated with Biomaster
Now that pubs are back open again – well, they are in my area, at the time of writing – there’s a need to remind people of the need for social distance when socialising.
To the rescue Thankfully, Badger Design has come to the rescue with its beer mat range. They can be printed with strong and clear reminders that customers keep their distance, and are the perfect bar and restaurant accessory.
Bio Labs’ mask case
While we’re on the subject of hand sanitiser, now that supply has settled down and it’s not worth its weight in gold, companies can look at ways of providing it that are useful and convenient. And they don’t come much more convenient than Goldstar’s new 2-in-1 Urban Pro metal pen.
Safety and style go hand-in-hand, with a writing implement that has an integrated 5ml container of anti-microbial hand sanitiser. The spray sanitiser uses 72% ethyl alcohol for at-the-ready germ-killing power, and it can be easily refilled. The premium twist-action ballpoint retractable pen has a sleek design that can

The Prime Time Company’s Evopad multi-functional mousepad can help bring order to your workspace and keep it that way. Whether working from home, the office, or even in a coffeeshop, it will keep everything you need for a productive day’s work to hand. The mousepad has a soft touch PU surface that allows precise mouse movement for work or gaming. It also hold pens and a phone in a convenient upright position. It also folds flat so you take it with you if you are on the move. It can be logoed to carry a company brand. Meanwhile, Xindao is getting on the anti-microbial bandwagon with a pocket size ABS powerbank that is treated with Biomaster. This anti-microbial agent provides a second line of defence against harmful bacteria as it is built into the product to give permanent protection. It has been tested in accordance with ISO 22196 for antimicrobial effectiveness and is 100% safe and harmless for users. Biomaster does not affect the recyclability of the item. The product also includes Verimaster, a unique tracer that is built into the material to prove that the item is actually treated with Biomaster and is not a counterfeit.
The powerbank comes with a 5000 mah A grade li-polymer battery to charge a device up to three times. It has a Micro USB Input 5V/2A; two USB ports with output 5V/2A, and LED battery indicators on the front.
Badger Design’s beer mats
Stock designs are available, or you can get creative and customise them with your own branding. The mats are made in the UK from 100% recycled wood pulp. Cheers! Time for a bit of future gazing now.
Wearable tech has been around for a while in the form of smart watches and fitness trackers. Now researchers think that microfibres and nanofibres could eventually keep track of ailments like diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure, and could be woven into garments.
Rituparna Ghosh, a mechanical engineer at the National University of Singapore, said studies indicated that trackers could be woven into something like a face mask in the study, or a handkerchief which you put on your wrist and it starts giving data. There’s still a bit of work to be done, but if we’ve learned anything this year, it’s that science is a powerful thing.
