Focus on Headwear Embroidery on Caps
Embroidery on caps is not the same as embroidery on clothing, neither is it suitable for everyone. If you do not change the way, you embroider on clothing you will fi nd premature wear and tear on your embroidery machine that can result in expensive repairs.
Here are a few tips on how to get embroidery on caps right. • Slow your machine speed down.
• Use Schemtz SD1 needles. These are special needles for heavy tough fabrics. They are a ball point needle with a pyramid point on the tip that helps penetrate the yarn. These are not sharp needles.
• Use a fabric lubricant such as Fablube, this will help the needle penetrate the yarn easier and reduce friction and thread breaks. • Use a strong & stiff tear away backing around 90g. This will stop the bouncing of the cap between the void space of the cap and the frame. • Polyester threads are stronger and may reduce thread breaks. • Why not try 3D Foam for that extra special effect? When using this 3D Foam tell your digitiser so they can increase the satin stitch density and cap the ends. You will have to loosen your bottom and top thread tensions so as not to squeeze the foam.
• If your cap frame is not large enough for the embroidery, then look at the EMS Gen2 cap frame or if you do not have a cap driver for your machine then look at the Durkee fl at cap frame that does not require a driver.
