Aeronautica Landing

The centrepiece attraction in Aeronautica Landing is arguably the

new Gear Spin. The theme of the attraction asks the question, what if a ginormous, red-hot propulsion engine –normally used to thrust an aircraft through the atmosphere- was outfitted with seats for riders? Park guests can discover that answer and the engine’s as the engine’s power and force creates a speeding, spinning adventure in the air. A Zamperla Nebulaz ride, the attraction’s arms swing on horizontal axes in a circular motion all while the central tower rotates around itself. Zamperla’s design also ensures the arms are also synchronised by a redundant central gearing system, so they intertwine while flying. The result is a ride that is as much fun to watch as it is to soar on. Speaking of watching, a new, unique place to rest and view the area

is located nearly adjacent to the Gear Spin. An artistic monolith-stye structure, the Founders Statue draws guests to the centre of the themed area. Complete with decorative propellers and an overall sleek design, a plaque reads, “Aeronautica Landing is dedicated to all who made the dream of reaching the skies a reality.” While the stylish marker serves as the unofficial centre point around which

most of Aeronautica Landing surrounds, it also features casual bench seating and shade from direct sunlight. “As we look ahead to our next 50 years, inclusivity is important,” said

Allen. “I’m proud that our corporate planning and development team involves the park events and entertainment teams from the very beginning. We have a seat at the planning table and together we discuss our guests and how everyone in a “family group” may use and engage with the park during their visit. Aeronautica Landing was created to be an area that all members of a group can experience together, whether they are riding, dining, viewing or just relaxing.” A quick pivot on one of the benches shifts the guest’s viewpoint from the

Gear Spin and Hover and Dodge to the colourful Airwalker. The attraction features a bright red propeller plane which appears to seat guests on its wide wings. From there they embark on a whirling and twirling, back and forth, ride on the Zamperla Disk’O track that can best be described as a big smile. While watching the ride is almost as much entertainment as riding, Allen

points out the extended theming surrounding and leading up to Airwalker. “We themed this attraction to look like it’s taking off from the beaches of

Kitty Hawk. This includes a sandy berm, designed to look like the beaches of the Outer Banks surrounding the ride envelope and the queue area. Most importantly though, we extended the beach colours and look out on the general walkway.”
