From Screen to Scene: Translating the Monsterverse into a Physical Attraction
W
hat happens when two of the largest and most internationally recognized monsters from film and television leap
from screen to real-world scene? A theme park adventure that has been years in the making. Through an unprecedented collaboration between Legendary Entertainment, Lotte World Adventure and Sally Dark Rides, Kong x Godzilla: The Ride has opened in South Korea.
“This attraction was an audacious undertaking,”
said Lauren Weaver, vice president of marketing and business development at Sally Dark Rides. “For the first time ever, the Monsterverse has been brought to life for fans and theme park guests.” “To have the opportunity to take the
Monsterverse from reel to real was just as big as the monsters themselves,” Weaver continued. “Their stories have inspired the imaginations of millions, and with this attraction we were able to help make Kong and Godzilla more tangible than ever before.”
Kong x Godzilla: The Ride is the first-of-its-
kind theme park attraction starring Legendary’s Monsterverse. The Monsterverse is a cinematic universe built around mythological giant monsters known as Titans, ancient, supersized predators including Godzilla, Kong, Scylla and the new fan-favorite Shimo. To successfully bring the Monsterverse to life at the park, the three companies were united in combining world- class storytelling, technical artistry, and themed entertainment innovation.
Inside Monarch: Why the Queue Is Part of the Story The guest journey begins the moment visitors enter the elaborately themed queue, where they are immediately immersed in an original narrative rooted in Monsterverse canon. The queue recreates the Monarch research facilities and equipment seen in the films, while a pre- show briefing delivers their mission before they embark on the experience. Further grounding the attraction in the film’s lore, the Korea base is designated “M-42” and it’s now officially part of the franchise’s canon.
Hollow Earth is a hidden subterranean world
and the home of the Monsterverse’s Titans. Guests board HEAVs — Hollow Earth Aerial Vehicles (familiar to fans of the films) — for a journey into this vast, dangerous realm. Riders blast off from the high tech Monarch base and enter a natural habitat of lush vegetation and vibrant creatures before they find themselves in the middle of an action-packed adventure, which includes coming face-to-face with the Titans they’ve previously only seen on screen.
living in Hollow Earth — they are briefed on their mission through authentic-looking props, creative signage and a personal introduction from the professor of cryptozoology, Dr. Hill, one of Sally’s lifelike animatronics.

to imagine what it would feel like to stand in the presence of Titans,” said Amado Trevino, director of interactive media and experiences at Legendary Entertainment. “From the earliest stages of development, we built every element of Kong x Godzilla: The Ride to feel authentic to the world our fans know and love. Now, they can join Monarch, journey into Hollow Earth and become part of the story. That is the unique power of location-based entertainment: transforming fandom into a shared experience and giving guests the unforgettable feeling of standing among these iconic characters.
