Tik Tak Tivoli

Danish amusement park Tivoli will open a new ride to celebrate its 175-year jubilee. Named Tik Tak, it is a Shake R5 by Dutch company Mondial, and replaces the Spinning Top ride (a Breakdance, from Huss), which carried almost 14 million visitors during its 29 years in Tivoli. Tik Tak will opens

on 24 March 2018. The design theme is similar to

that of the existing Star Flyer and Aquila attractions in the area known as the ‘Merry Corner’, which is inspired by the idea of a journey of discovery, whether its in the stars, in the world of science or in time.

When visitors board Tik Tak,

they sit among gears, gadgets and ingenious mechanisms, and “glide – although some may feel more as if they are thrown – through time. Dizziness is almost guaranteed once the giant clockwork mechanism starts swinging.” Visitors are rotated both

vertically and horizontally at high speed, at forces approaching 4G. The ride has a capacity of up to 750 visitors per hour.

Details released for Alton Towers’ new woodie

W

icker Man, set to open in Spring 2018 at Alton Towers Resort, is the UK’s first new wooden rollercoaster experience in 21 years. In a thrilling twist, the coaster will bringing together wood and fire for

the very first time: a Wicker Man structure standing at 57.57ft (17.55m) tall – the height of a six-storey building – will dominate the very centre of Alton Towers Resort, and will appear to burst into flames as the wooden track races three separate times through the structure. The new attraction was created by a team of experts led by world-leading creators of wooden rollercoasters Great Coasters International (Park World’s January cover stars). Visitors to Alton Towers Resort in 2018 will embark on a multi-sensory rite of passage, in which they’ll be drawn into the mysterious world of The Beornen, a shadowy group living in the woods surrounding the theme park. Bradley Wynne, creative lead at Alton Towers Resort explained: “Guests will be ‘chosen’ to take part in a celebratory ‘rite of passage’ as they race through the flaming Wicker Man. We hope the primal essence of the wooden coaster and astonishing effects will leave visitors delighted, exhilarated and eager to ride again.” The first publicity pictures hinting at the nature of the forthcoming attraction include

artwork created by globally-celebrated illustrator Kyle Lambert – known across the world as the artist behind the imagery for award-winning show Stranger Things, alongside other Hollywood movie work including Jurassic Park, Super 8 and Jumanji.

ADVERT New attractions for Splish Splash

Splish Splash in Calverton, New York, will add two new attractions by WhiteWater West in 2018, Riptide Racer and Bombs Away. Riptide Racer is a four lane racing mat slide. Guests are drenched as they charge down the enclosed flumes in a chase for the finish line. Bombs Away will feature two dueling 300 foot (91m) slides perched on a tower over 50 feet (15m) in the air. This slide combines the anticipation of the Aqua-Launch capsule with the visual impact of looping translucent fiberglass. “Our guests continually ask for the hottest high thrill rides to be added to

the park,” said Mike Bengtson, general manager of Splish Splash. “These two attractions will deliver on both.”
