CONTENTS Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. In the magazine this month we open with a preview of the upcoming Schools & Academies Show taking place at Birmingham’s NEC on 22nd November, in which we showcase some of the

many exhibitors taking exhibition space there. We also have four features for you this month, two looking at school finances, and two looking at music and the performing arts. In our first we hear from James Gare, Partner at Monahans, the south west’s leading accountancy and business advisory firm, while in our second, Christopher Dryer, Director of Finance and Operations at St Bartholomew’s CE Multi-Academy Trust, discusses the financial challenges academies are facing and how technology has helped to keep a firm grip on income and expenditure, even in the face of rising prices and shifting priorities. In our third feature Eve Massaad, Director of Marketing at WaterBear, the College of Music, shares an insight into the college’s unique ethos to foster independence and resilience in students, a key driving factor in its success, while in our final feature Toby Ealden, Artistic Director & CEO at Zest Theatre, explains how the diverse lives of young people can be enriched through theatre and cultural experiences.

Elsewhere in the magazine we have all our usual contributors offering insight and opinion, and a lovely View from the classroom feature with Lucy Eldridge, Head of School at Two Mile Ash School in Milton Keynes, who explains how PE has become a fundamental part of the curriculum at the school. Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, as well as by phone or email. Enjoy the issue!
