ADVERTORIAL Alternative Provision (AP)


We often find we are utilised in this instance to bring a student back into mainstream education, following on from reviews, the local authority typically will begin to reduce hours and phase the students towards face-to-face tuition. Some of our students access our tuition from home with the look at phasing the student back into school.


We have also found that students waiting for a secure school placement will sit within this tier.


Tier 3 – Transitional placements - This is for placements in registered AP with a longer-term plan to secure a new school or post-16 destination. We are currently working with an A-Level student that is unable to be in school full-time for personal reasons, we are providing 3 hours of tuition a week and the student goes into a school setting on the other days. Circumstances for students in this tier can be widely varying, from staying with us for the duration of their GCSEs to students using us for longer term tuition whilst an EHCP process takes place.

lternative Provision (AP) focuses on offering education opportunities to young people who are unable to engage in mainstream schools for various reasons. TLC LIVE have been providing online tuition for over 11 years and we are continually dedicated to making a meaningful impact in this area. We provide flexible and personalised online lessons delivered by qualified teachers. Our tuition aligns with the government’s three-tier AP framework whilst directly addressing the complex challenges associated with unregistered AP concerns.


AP is designed to meet the needs of students who cannot use mainstream school, often because of behavioural challenges, medical conditions or other complex needs.


As of late, the three-tiers of AP in England have allowed for a structured approach.


Tier 1 – Targeted support in schools – This tier is in place for students to quickly re-engage with learning while addressing immediate barriers to mainstream schooling whilst still focusing on staying in school. At TLC LIVE Online Tutoring we continue to support students that are struggling to work within a mainstream school setting, by conducting online lessons for students within school premises or at home, allowing them to continue their individualised learning.


We understand these circumstances lend themselves to temporary provision and therefore across our tutoring we continue to promote that we do not require contracts, we are able to set up lessons within 48hours as well as cancel lessons with 24 hours’ notice free of charge. Our online tutoring is there to support students as and when they need us.


These tiers are representative of the need’s students in AP have. Therefore, each student won’t necessarily experience each tier but more so fit within the needs of one tier.


However, we understand that alongside this process, students may need additional frameworks for successful reintegration. So, at TLC LIVE Online Tutoring we have developed a four-step re-engagement approach to aid students.


Step 1: Assessment and Understanding Step 2: Building Engagement Step 3: Transition onto site Step 4: Transition Support
