14 BESA CORNER Dear Reader,
Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. In a bumper issue for features this month, we focus on the important issues surrounding SEND in our schools, and also take a look at how schools can share best practice.
In our first feature on SEND, Dame Christine Lenehan, Director of the Council for Disabled Children (part of the National Children’s Bureau), examines the current state of SEND provision in the UK and calls for a national vision to achieve a truly fair and inclusive system for all. In our second, Lucy Taylor, Education Lead at ACER, explains how technology can benefit pupils in a SEND context; while in our third, education journalist (and friend of this parish) Sal McKeown visits Erskine Stewart's Melville Schools and finds out how it is accommodating all its pupils’ educational needs through the considered use of such technology.
In our first feature on sharing best practice, Dave Smith from HES explores the importance of finding more time to collaborate, and the benefits that come from sharing ideas and best practice both in and outside of the classroom, in order to raise standards and enhance teaching and learning; while in our second, Helen Rowland, Chief Executive of the Focus Trust, discusses the importance of sharing learning across a multi-academy trust in order to ensure collective best practice.
Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email. Enjoy the issue!
