Auschwitz survivor Eva Schloss visits Solihull School


Anne Frank’s stepsister, Auschwitz survivor and activist Eva Schloss MBE visited a leadingMidlands independent school to watch a play based on her life and spoke of her fear at the amount of discrimination which exists in the world.


The internationally renowned speaker watched a performance of And Then They Came forMe, which combines recorded interviews with Eva and fellow Holocaust survivor Ed Silverberg, at Solihull School.


Eva’s family went into hiding in Holland after the Nazi invasion, before they were betrayed, arrested and sent to concentration camps, where her father and brother perished.


Eva’s visit was part of Solihull Speaks, Solihull School’s progressive conference programme for primary and secondary school teachers, featuring speakers and organisations who lead the w tackling discrimination and hate crime in all its forms. The event also featured The Promise, an exhibition


of Eva’s brother Heinz Geiringer and the artistic talents he cultivated whilst in hiding for almost two years during the war.


It was brought to life with reproductions of Heinz’s astonishing paintings, which were salvaged from obscurity by his sister and mother after hi s death .

Tilda Foodservice has crowned Kinross High Sch winner of Tilda Together. Rewarding the Scottis


h school with a £500 cash ool in Perth as this year’s


prize and a Tilda Together Day in partnership withMary’sMeals.


Returning for a fourth year, the popular competition saw over 40 schools compete to win the Tilda Together Day with Kinross scooping the prize, thanks to Home Economics Teacher, Catriona Cairney’s winning entry. Over 160 pupils from across the school got involved in the activities with the Home Economics class enjoying a nutritional talk and cookery lesson from leading dietitian and nutritionist Lucy Upton. The Geography students learnt about the school-feeding charity fromMary’sMeals ambassador, Richard Lloyd and the English classes packed backpacks to support the charity’s valuable work inMalawi.


As part of winning Tilda Together, Kinross High School also received 25kg of Tilda’s Brown &White rice, providing a welcomed boost to the menu and kitchen.

Home Economics is such a vibrant part of our school, working closely with many of the other departments. Taking place on 12th November at Thomson Reuters head offices in CanaryWharf, the one day interactive event will showcase positive male role models to inspire participants through their experiences and raise their aspirations, showing them that anything is possible when they have the courage and confid ence to find their own identity and work hard.

The event will be hosted by Bear Grylls The Island Star and Radio Presenter, Dean Quinton. Participants will also hear from keynote speakers including Andrew Hulbert, Successful Entrepreneur and CEO of Pareto; Cameron Parker,Motivational Schools Speaker and Andrew Odong, Content Strategist and Foun der of CreativeMedia Agency Pesa Productions. They will share thei r career stories and learned wisdom.
