Outdoor learning at Kelvinside Academy continues to blossom

UK College of the Year to lead one of 21 Maths Centres for Excellence in the UK


Fareham College, the TES UK College of the Year, has been appointed as the ‘exceptional post-16 institution’ to lead one of the new 21 Centres for Excellence for mathematics in the UK. The news was announced


by the Secretary of State for Education, Damian Hinds MP at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham last week. The £40m programme has been invested to support the post-16


sector to improve maths teaching across the country. It will be rolled out over five years and is expected to create new and


enhanced teaching approaches for maths, through best practice sharing. The Fareham College Centre for Excellence will comprise: Eastleigh


College; Isle of Wight College; Southampton City College; Sparsholt College; Havant & South Downs College; St Vincent’s College and Highbury College. It will also be supported by the Hampshire Inspection and Advisory Service, and the Pioneer Teaching Alliance. Andrew Kaye, Deputy Principal of Fareham College, commented:


“We are delighted that we have been successful and look forward to working with our network to make the programme a success. Maths is a vitally important academic discipline, but there are many students who struggle to get enthusiastic and engaged with the subject. By working collaboratively to create and share new and better teaching approaches, we will improve attainment among students.”

New fully-funded scholarships created at Gloucestershire school


Rendcomb College, the co- educational day and boarding school between Cheltenham and Cirencester in Gloucestershire, has today announced a number of new 100% Scholarships for children joining in September next year. In 2020, Rendcomb


College will celebrate its 100th anniversary and in recognition of this milestone, the school’s Governors have created these Centenary Scholarships which will commence for successful candidates in September 2019. Head of College, Rob Jones said: “Rendcomb College opened almost 100


years ago and we are proud to be continuing our founder’s ethos of providing an inclusive and broad-ranging education for pupils. I’m sure these new Centenary Scholarships will be in high demand and they will be awarded to those who are most deserving.” There are up to two fully funded places available for children joining Year 4


in the Junior School and up to three places available for Sixth Form in Year 12.


The Year 12 Scholarships will be awarded to academic high-flyers who are


anticipated to achieve a total number of 56 points across 8 subjects at GCSE while the Year 4 Scholarship candidates will sit an assessment and meet with the Head of Juniors. The Centenary Scholarships are now open for applications and candidates


should ensure they submit the necessary paperwork to Rendcomb College by the published deadlines on the school’s website.
