Highlights from the UK education sector 13 VIEWS
With author Gill Aitchison, and Patrick Hayes, Director of BESA
Dear Reader,
Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today. This month, we take a look back at annual trade shows Bett and the Education Show, selecting some of the shows’ many highlights and offering a recap of the significant events which took place.
We also take an in-depth look at parental engagement this month – in our first feature, regular Education Today contributor Graham Cooper, head of education at Capita SIMS and a former teacher, explores the issues and offers some pointers for schools looking to encourage more interaction between parent and school; while in our second, Geoff Jones from ParentMail explores the benefits for schools of keeping in touch not just with parents but with the whole school community. We continue our regular section shining a spotlight on the many aspects of SEND with Dr Asha Patel and Kate Sarginson, have the aforementioned Graham Cooper and Kirsty Bertenshaw as always offering insight and advice, and a great roster of commenters sharing their thoughts on the world of education.
What’s more, we continue our section on education writers, “From the pen of…”, with Gill Aitchison, author of the multilingual ‘Mungo Makes New Friends’, who argues for the benefits of multilingualism in education.
Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, Facebook and our homepage, as well as by phone or email.
Enjoy the issue! Jonathan Swift - Managing Editor
