Hello and welcome to the middle of the year. Soon it’ll be time to start dreading Christmas. Yay. We have a particularly decent issue for you this month. Things are calm; there’s the tail end of G2E to consider, but otherwise the industry is just ticking over. AI is still threatening to take over our lives, but right now
we’re just using it to make pictures of Darth Vader in pyjamas with forks for fi ngers, so I think we still have a few months left before we all die at its hands. If there’s one article I’d direct you to this month (not that they aren’t all worthy) it’d be Melanie Ellis’ analysis of The UK Governments White Paper. “Despite the paper’s title indicating a focus on digital
developments, the document also proposes some signifi cant changes for the regulation of land-based gambling. In particular, the White Paper gives positive news to casino operators, including the potential for the re-allocation of unused licences and increased numbers of gaming machines.” Her article focuses on those two proposals, but a number of other benefi ts have been put forward, including permitting betting in all casino premises and allowing casinos to offer credit to wealthy visitors from overseas. Having seen much of the industry held in limbo while waiting for this paper, it’ll be interesting to see the real impact it has in the coming months now that everyone knows where they stand.
I, however, am off on a short holiday break to Suffolk where I am led to believe they have both beer AND wine. Don’t worry though; I’m taking my PlayStation 5 with me, so will still be able to deal with all of your emails in the usual way (i.e. not at all). Chin chin.
