BATHROOM FURNITURE Keith Alcock

Roper Rhodes

BKU’s Matt Broughton spoke with Keith Alcock, Roper Rhodes’ Senior Category Manager (furniture).

think the industry is still quite challenging at present,” says Roper Rhodes’ Senior Category Manager (furniture) Keith Alcock when asked how the first half of 2024 treated the company. “To ensure we keep customers interested and invigorated we have already had two large launches this year into our Roper Rhodes furniture offer. We have seen the oak trend bubbling under for a while now so have added that trending finish into two of our best-selling and comprehensive modern wall- mounted offers - Scheme and System. “We also had a major relaunch of our fitted furniture offer. This was a comprehensive holistic launch. As well as new product, we’ve updated all customer support, allowed order simplification and created a whole suite of new marketing collateral - both digital and physical. Included in the fitted offer was a completely new micro- shaker door style - Elan - in five contemporary, on-trend finishes, two of which were completely new for fitted - Black and Terra. Into our ever-popular Burford classic door style, we’ve completely updated the pallet with the inclusion of Sage Green, Manor Green, Dusk Blue,

Black and Terra. All of which complement the door styling.”

As for the rest of 2024… “As well as consolidation and continuing customer service excellence, we have more exciting things planned for our R2 brand later in the year. Watch this space!”.

Right now, though – and from a product point of view – the company is looking towards 2025 and beyond. Keith explains: “It’s important that we remain agile to consumer demands and trends, which are moving ever more quickly. We have some exciting items in development in furniture and all other categories which are innovative and will allow Roper Rhodes Group offering to evolve to the next level.”

Oak Scheme & System Furniture Roper Rhodes has seen the rise of the oak style rising for a while now, so added that trending finish into two of its best-selling and comprehensive modern wall-mounted offers. The oak décor was selected from a huge potential array of options, as Keith explains: “We decided to go with a modern neutral oak which steps away from the more old-fashioned yellow or red oaks. We also chose an oak finish which has

quite a linear grain. This allows the furniture to sit more comfortably in multiple bathroom colour schemes without clashing, as you can get with heavily grained and knotted finishes. These can look very “busy” across multiple doors and drawers and dominate a room. We chose the same oak décor for our fitted furniture to create consistency and synergy across both modular and fitted furniture”

Sustainability

Roper Rhodes has been active in the pursuit of sustainability for many years: “As part of the circular economy we have always tried to make sure that products are repairable and to that end carry enormous amounts of spare parts should the customer require them during the product lifecycle, says Keith. “We are moving towards zero single-use plastic in all of our packaging and ensuring that all packaging materials used also come from recycled sources. From a physical product point of view, we are looking at new and innovative materials for both current and future products which have greatly reduced embedded carbon in them.”
