INDUSTRY INDUSTRY VIEWS VIEWS The Multigenerational Household
Multigenerational living is on the rise, whether entertaining or working, the modern home must be fit for a variety of functions and family members. Now more than ever, it’s essential to have a bathroom that is not only stylish but also provides ultimate functionality.
Products that define a multigenerational bathroom are those which make everyday life more convenient. It might be the addition of non-slip shower surfaces to allow safe use for older generations or wall-hung cabinets to keep cleaning products safely out the reach of children. Much of the latest innovations in bathroom technology, like the AquaClean shower toilet, are specifically designed to tailor to multigenerational households and enhance user experience regardless of age.
The key is to offer products that combine premium materials and clever design to achieve a bathroom that works as well for the whole family now as it will in five or more years’ time.

While the nights are still dark and the weather isn’t yet bringing us Spring sunshine, we need to encourage consumers to take more long, hot baths!

hydrotherapy is a proven therapeutic way of using water to relax the body, releasing stress and tension. The jets in a whirlpool bath help to relax tight muscles and increase blood flow to all tissues, offering an at home spa-like treatment.* When
submerged in water, your body weight is reduced which can lower joint and muscle pain as well as increase your range of movement.* In a world that can feel like there’s a lot of doom and gloom, it’s more important than ever to relax and recuperate in a long, hot bath.”

Slim profiles can mean big opportunities
Whichever way we look at it, the bathroom is not getting any bigger. While the limited floor space available in the average family bathroom may cause some head scratching among consumers who aren’t sure how to make the most of it, for the retailer the small bathroom market actually presents some pretty big opportunities.
The trick is to specify products that are designed specifically for smaller spaces and that will in fact enhance what’s there rather than emphasising what’s not. Furniture and sanitaryware with slim profiles, for example, play into the minimalist vibe, not over cluttering or
encroaching but simply delivering what’s needed in terms of ensuring the small bathroom functions like any other, all in a sleek and stylish way. With consumers looking to their retailer for expertise in making the right choices for their small bathrooms, having the right solutions on board in terms of product design and ingenuity can make all the difference.
