Worksurfaces & Splashbacks

Today’s worksurfaces offer something for everyone

T

he worksurface market continues to innovate, develop and grow. Worktops with a 40mm thickness have long reigned as the norm and still have the more significant share of the market, but thinner edges down to 20mm have grown strongly in demand for the sleek aesthetics they bestow on a kitchen scheme. Where this look was once only available using more expensive materials, laminate has allowed the trend to move into the mainstream by providing a high design, lower cost option.

Comment by Jo Gilhooly Marketing Director, Bushboard

And talking of good design and value for money, installer-ready solid surface and quartz is resonating well in the market now. Consumers aspire to marble and granite and manufacturers have invested heavily in design development and production methods to be able to mirror the looks of natural stone at a much lower cost. Man-made materials have the advantage of being robust, non- porous and easy to maintain without compromising on quality or performance. The ‘installer-ready’ option also benefits from fast and easy installation, which can save the consumer as much as 30%

compared to the usual ‘template-fabricate-fit’ route. Design and colour-wise, woodgrains and stones with a grey base tone are going from strength to strength. We are going to see more urban and industrial style stones with their neutral quality accentuated by deeper textures to add an innate design interest. Their appeal will lie as much in how the product feels, as well as how it looks, plus they work really well paired with both traditional and contemporary door styles.

Bushboard’s Encore solid surface in Ice delivers installer-ready sophistication F

or the latest in installer-ready worktop chic, the luxurious large scale veining of Bushboard’s Encore solid surface in Ice delivers the desirable look of real marble in fashionable grey tones, while its slimline 27mm thickness reflects the trend for thinner worksurfaces.

Encore can be seamlessly jointed, giving a streamlined look and providing the design flexibility to flow smoothly around corners. Integrally moulded sinks can be installed into the solid surface to achieve a pure design aesthetic. As an acrylic material, Encore is non-porous, hygienic and lower maintenance than real stone with easier cleaning and no resealing required. Fitting on site using the installer-ready surface means the work can be completed in as little two days rather than the usual two week wait for the ‘template-fabricate-fit’ route.

There are 19 designs available in the Encore worksurfaces range in a choice of sizes and thicknesses for worktops, breakfast bars and islands with matching splashbacks and upstands. Products have a ten-year guarantee.
