INDUSTRY UPDATE THE TILE ASSOCIATION COLUMN THE BMA COLUMN

TTA supports the Tiling Industry

T

TA has been working hard during the COVID-19 crisis to support its members and the wider industry.

TTA is continuing to provide support for the sector, flagging up

Government guidance and information about the latest financial programmes, as they have been launched. We are also lobbying on behalf of the industry via partners at the Construction Products Association and Build UK, who have a voice with the Construction Leadership Council and the Government. Since the start of the crisis, TTA has been active on social media and has

issued daily updates for our members. Much of the information featured in these, including details on all the Government support schemes relevant to the tiling sector, and much other information besides, can be found on the Coronavirus Support Page on the TTA website. TTA head office has remained staffed throughout the crisis, although the

team is working remotely. The special support which is available during the current crisis is in

addition to the ongoing benefits of membership, which TTA is able to provide to all of its members in the UK and Ireland. This is equally true, whether they are independent fixers, manufacturers, contractors or distributors. All members benefit from a free listing in the business directory section of the TTA website, which gets thousands of views each month.

The TTA technical helpline is available free of charge to members. For

more detailed technical information, the full range of Technical Publications is available for members to download free of charge from the Members’ Area of the TTA website. TTA is now widely respected as the leading authority for technical information and on training within the industry. All independent fixer members and tiling contractors can apply for a

Registered Tile Fixer Card free of charge. This gives customers the reassurance that they are dealing with an approved and trusted tile fixer. The Card is free of charge as part of TTA membership.

BMA Channels Churchill - Never let a good crisis go to waste

I

was recently reminded of the famous Winston Churchill quote “never let a good crisis go to waste”. The UK hasn’t

faced a crisis as acute as COVID-19 since the great man himself was in office. As an industry, we should heed the wartime leader’s advice and focus on the opportunities we can create. Much of the media has obsessed about the tragedy of the death toll and

the seemingly insurmountable challenges of coronavirus. Against that backdrop, I have been impressed by the contrasting stoicism of BMA members, our partners in other business organisations and the Government. There has been a tremendous amount of collaboration and calm problem-solving. And in that Churchillian spirit, many are now turning to how they might “come back better”. In bathrooms, we could aspire for better product compliance in our

marketplace. CE marking and water regulations may be a tad dull, but they are about keeping our end-users safe. We could also work together with other home improvement partners

towards a more buoyant RMI market. Every £1 spent on construction creates £2.92 of economic value. With 26 million homes in the UK, the RMI opportunity is much greater than in other parts of construction. Moreover, if the UK is serious about reducing per capita water consumer or reaching carbon neutrality, it’s only achieved through RMI projects. So, lets together to make Government doesn’t miss a golden opportunity.
