products has grown substantially with many KBB companies now looking to enhance their own production capabilities with products sourced from specialist manufacturers. It has always been the case that components

uring the last decade, the market for outsourced panel and component
such as fascia’s and wrapped mouldings have been used as outsourced products to increase the breadth of the offer with these invariably sourced from specialist manufacturers both within the UK and further afield. This has developed much faster and further throughout the last decade with many businesses now looking at their core competences of design, marketing and logistics and as such entering into decisions of “make or buy”. Not only for highly technical products but also the high-volume panel requirements that every KBB business requires. Consumers knowledge of KBB products, and
trend and style in general, has increased dramatically in recent years - fuelled primarily by the availability of excellent manufacturers and retailers own websites but also the vast quantity of television “style and make over” shows.
Purchasing decisions are increasingly influenced by such knowledge with emphasis and focus being placed on colour, materials, door and drawer styles, further benefiting those in the market that seek to maximise the availability of such products by outsourcing from specialist component manufacturers. This approach has led to the development of businesses, which by investing in the latest most efficient technology, are able to competitively offer the benefits of high volume flexible manufacturing of both carcase and fascia components, supplying the furniture and allied industries with a cost effective solution. Decorative Panels Components is one such
company and is now one of the largest trade converters of wood-based panels in the world. With the capacity to produce over 600,000
panel components per week, dp-components supply a diverse range of cut, edged, drilled and shaped panels predominantly to manufacturers within the KBB sector. From high volume production of kitchen,
bedroom and bathroom carcase and fascia’s, to the design, development and prototyping of projects,

nvariably as customer exclusive properties, dp-components offers the
flexibility and experience that sees them partner some of the most respected names within the industry. In 2020 the business undertook a building
project at their Components facility to build a 38.000ft2 extension to the factory. The outcome will be a manufacturing facility of some 213.000ft2 that will give the flexibility to expand the business operating possibilities. This significant increase in capacity means the business can be more efficient with an expanded stock range, trade counter and
a more complete service for customers – all under one roof. It’s also exciting time at Decorative Panels as
they have been installing the ultimate fully automated edgebanding line at their state of the art factory in Elland. Purchased from Biesse this new line further increases the overall quality of panels while also greatly adding to the efficiency of the factory. As a result, edgebanding capacity is significantly
increased. All this technology pulled together guarantees a truly spectacular finish that revolutionises the panel market.
Group Managing Director, Guy Metcalfe
reports on companies exciting developments: ‘’Decorative Panels is a business that is
committed to driving forwards, irrespective of the macro economic situation, we firmly believe that UK manufacturing is the future of this country and we fully intend to be at the forefront of this within our sector’’
