Editor’s Letter HERE COMES THE SUN
I don’t know about you but summer is always my favourite time of year. Longer days, warmer weather, and for me personally, you cannot beat the sound of red leather on willow as you display the most elegant cover drive on a local village green.
But as it has heated up so too has our drive to bring you the best stories
and features in the world of wide-format printing, and with that comes the fi rst summer issue, hot off the press! This year’s FESPA took place at the Messe Berlin and swept in as swiftly as
it went again. So much kit was debuted and so many exhibitors were around to talk to that it would have been a mission to see it all so we have compiled a full review of it and its co-located shows, the European Sign Expo and Personalisation Experience. This can be found across four pages starting on page 12.
Another unique feature to the issue is a one-to-one interview with Print and
Frame It founder, Mike Spring. Melanie spoke with the man about his illustrious career and how he has developed his skills in the industry. He even speaks about how while working for Coca-Cola, he designed the iconic rounded limited edition World Cup glass. The full details of his life and career can be found on pages 24 and 25. But of course, you can still fi nd our regular features including IR talks to: where
we spoke with Young People in Print board member Jo Stephenson; Environment where I talk to Gundon Waste Management about sustainability partnerships, and Zeitgeist where we explore the idea of design software like Canva potentially putting graphic designers out of a job. All of this and more can be read in this issue. We have also collected the latest news stories for you to digest. We have also closed entries to our Widthwise Survey as of June, so I wanted
to take the opportunity to thank everyone who took part. It is early days but thanks to all the efforts displayed here we have managed to grow it from last year, but again that wouldn’t have been possible without you so thank you for helping us help you. We will begin to work behind the scenes to have the results published soon. Lastly, I would like to welcome our readers to the newest member of our team.
Krysan Hallett has joined our ranks and will be taking on any and all sales queries. I’m sure many of you would have spoken to her already but if not, she is always open for a friendly call. As always, it has been a pleasure to be part of this title and I hope you enjoy
the variety of stories we have collected for you. Thank you to all our readers and if you have anything you wish to share with us you know how to get in touch.
