Radiators for youth hub gym

Stelrad has supplied radiators for a new community gym and youth hub on Leonard Street in Hull. The facility, operated by The Peel Project, opened in January following the refurbishment of an existing building. Stelrad Compact radiators were

Roof-mounted heat pumps serve grade-II pavilion

A tailored Baxi air source heat pump (ASHP) solution is supplying low-carbon heating and hot water at Eaton Park Pavilion, a Grade II-listed building at the heart of one of Norwich City Council’s most popular parks. The installation uses equipment

from Baxi as part of a fully electric heating and hot water system. The core of the system is formed by two roof-mounted Baxi HP50 13kW air source heat pump units. These are connected to internal plant that includes two buff er vessels, which help maintain stable system temperatures and fl ow rates, and two Baxi 300 litre ASHP cylinder units that store domestic hot water for use across the building. The system has been designed

to meet the demands of upgraded sports changing facilities within the pavilion. These include

Hybrid heating system a hit at the health centre

A hybrid heating system has been installed at Grantham Health Centre in Lincolnshire to replace the previous gas boilers. The system combines Hamworthy Heating’s Stratton mk3 wall- hung condensing boilers with a Tyneham 50kW 290HT air source heat pump. The heat pump provides primary heating when conditions allow, with the boilers

supplying additional output or higher temperatures as needed. A 500-litre buff er vessel with an

integrated back-up heater helps stabilise fl ow temperatures, while a building management system controls sequencing between the heat sources. The equipment was connected to the existing heating

distribution network to avoid major internal alterations. Installation took place while the

centre remained operational, using a temporary boiler to maintain heating and hot water. Gas connection works were carried out over a weekend. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/426/52

Keeping guests warm and cool at Chester Zoo

Over 50 guest lodges at Chester Zoo have now been fi tted with Ecodan air source heat pumps from Mitsubishi as part of its ongoing decarbonisation programme. The lodges, located within the Heart of Africa zone, are

benefi tting from an all-electric system to deliver space heating across the accommodation. For cooling, the lodges also feature Mitsubishi Electric Mr Slim air conditioning units, allowing temperature control during warmer conditions. The partnership has also seen Mitsubishi Electric provide

air source heat pumps, air conditioning and ventilation to The Square, the zoo’s conference and events venue, late last year. In addition, six Ecodan air source heat pumps have also been installed in the habitat for the endangered Eastern Black Rhino, and a further seven at the zoo’s purpose-built butterfl y habitat. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/426/53

individual shower cubicles and associated amenities, which require a consistent supply of heated water. The air source heat pumps operate by extracting heat from the outside air and transferring it into the building’s heating circuit and hot water storage. Installation on the roof

allows the equipment to be accommodated without reducing internal space, while also limiting its visual presence at ground level. This approach is relevant given the building’s listed status. The system operates alongside other building upgrades, including improvements to insulation, ventilation, and the integration of on-site electricity generation and storage, although these elements function separately from the heat pump installation itself. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/426/49

installed throughout the premises to provide space heating. The standard steel panel units work on the wet central heating system. Their inclusion formed a key

part of the building services upgrade, ensuring that internal

areas such as gym spaces and communal rooms can be maintained at a consistent temperature during use. Stelrad’s marketing director Chris Harvey says: “We were

delighted to be able to provide a number of our Compact radiators free of charge to this project in Hull, just down the road from our Yorkshire base in Mexborough.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/426/50

Laundry drainage problem solved with ease

Equipment from Sanifl o has helped a domestic property in Alton, Staff ordshire that sits in an elevated position with driveway and compact stone garage beneath the level of the house. The laundry room is in the garage, which presented a common but problematic drainage issue: no direct access to the drainage system. Waste water needed to

be pumped upwards to the existing soil stack. After a fl ood caused by an incorrectly specifi ed macerator pump, homeowner Ed Shenton sought a purpose-built solution and turned to Sanifl o’s Sanivite+ – a

pump designed specifi cally to handle hot, soapy grey water from domestic appliances. “This is exactly the type of

situation the Sanivite+ was designed for,” says Amanda Mills, Marketing Manager at SFA Sanifl o UK. “Many homeowners and installers don’t realise that using the wrong pump can lead to failures and fl ooding. The Sanivite+ is purpose-built for grey water applications, which is why it delivers reliable, long-term performance where

other solutions fall short.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/426/51

Valves that deliver for heat pump installations

A Yorkshire based heating and renewables engineer has been making extensive use of high- performance valves and other products from the range of Anglo- Swedish manufacturer, ESBE, in building his business. Damon Blakemore, owner

of Blakemore Renewables, began his career undertaking an apprenticeship with the local authority, gaining NVQ levels 2 and 3, and has also undertaken training at the Northampton Heating Academy in hydronics; also recently reaching the National Finals for the Heating Installer of the Year competition at the NEC. Commenting on his engagement

with ESBE, Damon says: “I fi rst started buying ESBE valves when I got into renewables some three years ago. I have come to appreciate the build quality and the versatility of the VRG valve as it can be altered to suit your plant room rather than installing your pipework to fi t the valve. This is thanks to the diff erent connection points and that they’re fully serviceable from the front.

“The most recent project we’ve

done has addressed a large private house in Sheffi eld featuring a total of three Heliotherm air source heat pumps – one covering the swimming pool and a pair of 22kW units providing underfl oor heating and hot water across the main residence. The £4 million property totals 2,282m2 across the basement, ground and fi rst fl oor – plus a rooftop observatory – with six en-suite bedrooms. We’ve utilised the 231 model for diverting and a 131 with the 120 second (speed) head for mixing. It is all commissioned now and is operating well.” ◼ phamnews.co.uk/426/54
