Academy to open in January
Heating and cooling tuition
Glasgow is the site of Beijer Ref UK’s newest training academy, featuring sustainable heating and cooling rigs, a dedicated renewable technology room with CO2 and A2L systems, and a heat pump training area covering the latest heating products. Engineers can gain hands-on experience across a wide range of technologies. Courses on offer include F-gas category 1, CO2 refrigerants, CO2
condensing units installation and commissioning, basic refrigeration electrics and safe isolation, hydrocarbon and flammable refrigerants, and industrial refrigeration fundamentals. More than 50 people attended the debut event, with most taking
the opportunity to book discounted training courses on the day. Hayley Cattell, managing director of Beijer Ref UK & Ireland,
comments: “It was great to welcome so many visitors to Glasgow. Our aim is to provide engineers with the training they need, where they need it. The ultimate target is for no engineer to be more than two hours away from expert guidance.” ◼

A new Renewable Training Academy from EG Training will open in Crayford, Kent, this January. Launched in partnership with Hitachi Heat Pumps, Luxusheat Ltd and Thompson & Leigh Plumbing Merchants, the facility is within easy access of the M25 and A2 and will provide training and assessment on the Installation, Service & Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pumps (three days), Design of Heat Pump Systems (one day), Low Temperature Heating Systems (two days), Unvented Hot Water System & Water Regulations (one day), Basic Electrical Safety (one day) and Electrical Fault Finding on Air Source Heat Pumps & Controls (five days). All courses are NICEIC certified
and can lead to MCS accreditation. EG Training can also offer MCS accreditation through the Luxusheat Umbrella Scheme and so avoiding the individual having to obtain their own MCS accreditation. ◼

Supporting the transition to renewable heating
South-east based merchant Harris & Bailey has strengthened its commitment to low-carbon heating with the launch of its Sustainable Home Centre in Croydon, created in partnership with Daikin. The hub serves as a dedicated training space for local installers, offering practical, product-led learning to support the transition to renewable heating systems. Installers can get hands-on with
Daikin’s latest products, backed by guidance on system design, installation and maintenance. By investing in targeted skills development, Harris & Bailey is helping businesses stay competitive as the market shifts towards greener,
more efficient home heating. “There’s a collective
responsibility between manufacturers, merchants, and installers,” says John Grinham, renewables manager at Harris & Bailey. “Our Sustainable Home Centre is all about giving installers the right tools and knowledge to deliver low-carbon solutions confidently. Since the centre opened, we’ve trained hundreds of professionals, blending theory with hands-on experience. Upskilling the trade is essential if the UK is going to meet its renewable energy targets, and that’s where we can make a real difference.” ◼
