Heat pumps join the squad at Bayern Munich arena
Viessmann Climate Solutions has supplied 19 heat pumps to FC Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena. The Vitocal 350 HT-PRO units provide decentralised heat for the stadium, helping maintain stable temperatures in areas such as the bistro, fan shop and ‘Experience World’. Around 1,050 photovoltaic modules have also been installed on the roofs of the visitor control areas to increase the stadium’s energy self- sufficiency.
This is the latest step in a plan to gradually upgrade the Allianz Arena with modern, renewable climate solutions from Viessmann Climate Solutions and Carrier Global and to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 40%. Three large heat pumps from Carrier were installed in 2022 to supply the soccer field heating system. Viessmann has been a strategic partner of FC Bayern Munich since 2018, beginning as a regional partner in China before expanding its collaboration across Southeast Asia in 2021. Since the 2022/23 season, the
relationship has grown into a global ‘Official Climate Partner’ arrangement, embracing a shared commitment to sustainability. Under the deal, which runs to the end of June 2026, Viessmann provides advanced cooling, ventilation, water treatment and air purification technology for FC Bayern facilities, including the FC Bayern Women’s team. The sponsorship also includes
joint environmental campaigns, brand usage rights, LED board placements at the Allianz Arena, and endorsements from Thomas
Filtration solution prevents expensive boiler replacement
When two gas boilers failed at the East Belfast Mission’s Skainos building, facilities management provider Solv Group called on Fernox to provide a rapid solution. Using its Protector+ Filter Fluid F9, Fernox provided a filter to remove significant levels of contaminants, restoring the boiler to full operation and avoiding a costly replacement. The East Belfast Mission, which offers vital community services including temporary housing, had faced a critical situation: after an initial repair attempt proved unsuccessful, the heating system was offline for ten days, creating an urgent need for an effective solution. As such, East Belfast Mission approached Solv to tackle the problem. Despite succeeding in getting one of the boilers operational again, after assessing the second, they found that it was repeatedly failing due to a significant build-up of sludge in the system, due to prolonged inactivity. For further specialist advice, the team contacted Fernox and Richard Thompson, Ireland country manager, who attended the site. He recommended installing
side filtration and dosing with Protector+ Filter Fluid F9 as an effective approach that would require minimal disruption.
Müller to drive awareness of renewable and energy-efficient solutions. To accompany FC Bayern Munich’s latest new team ‘signings’, Viessmann Climate Solutions has developed a humorous advertising campaign, created and produced by Hamburg-based creative studio 27km, where renowned Bayern stars demonstrate their acting talent by reacting self- deprecatingly to the confusion surrounding their ‘new colleagues’. ◼

Flame-free pipework in rapid hospital
installation Warwick Hospital has seen a major heating upgrade with the installation of nearly 2km of new mains connecting eleven plant rooms. The project used Victaulic’s grooved mechanical pipe joining system, including the StrengThin 100 solution for thin wall stainless steel pipe, to connect roof- mounted water source heat pumps to the main facility. This flame- free method avoided welding, reducing fire risks and the need
for permits while allowing work to proceed safely in a live hospital environment.
The system enabled rapid assembly, with installation times reported to be around 80% faster than traditional welded pipework. Lightweight stainless steel components eased handling in confined areas, and the grooved
joints allowed onsite adjustments to pipe routes to avoid disruption to hospital operations.
The installation provided a cleaner working environment, supported flexible future reconfigurations, and accommodated the hospital’s operational and spatial constraints. ◼

Discreet fan specified for cottage refurbishment The problematic second boiler
in the Skianos building was able to run during the two-week period that the Fernox treatment was left to sit in the system for. Solv found that when they returned, it had resolved the issue, and the second boiler had been restored to full working order as well. Given the client had believed the second boiler to be beyond repair and required replacement, Protector+ Filter Fluid F9 saved them having to spend potentially tens of thousands of pounds. ◼

A Victorian cottage in Cambridgeshire has been fitted with Vent-Axia’s Silent Fan as part of a bathroom refurbishment undertaken by homeowner Gemma Waterhouse. The fan’s slimline design allows for a visually discreet installation while maintaining very low operational noise, measured at just 12dB(A), making it significantly quieter than standard extract fans. The Silent Fan is compatible with existing 100mm ducts and can be mounted on walls, ceilings, windows, or panels. It offers multiple options, including intermittent or continuous
ventilation, humidistat control, and variable speeds. Its energy-efficient
motor consumes between 1.7 and 7.5W. The fan ensures effective extraction to reduce condensation, maintain indoor air quality, and complies with current Building Regulations. Its quiet operation and flexible installation make it suitable for both new builds and refurbishment projects. Gemma is renovating the cottage
herself and sharing her story on social media to inspire others to give home improvement a go. ◼

Care home opts for panels
The wetrooms at Spring Grove Care Home in Hampstead have undergone a full refurbishment using a waterproof wall panel system by Grant Westfield’s Multipanel brand, designed for care environments. The installation aimed to modernise the bathrooms while maintaining safety, hygiene and accessibility for residents, many of whom have dementia or limited mobility. As part of the refurbishment, the bathrooms were also upgraded with
slip-resistant vinyl wet room flooring. Combined with Multipanel’s easy-clean wall panels, the design now meets Lifetime Homes and accessibility standards, ensuring safety and ease of use for residents who require extra support. The project began with a trial installation before full rollout across
12 bathrooms, with another 12 scheduled for completion. Long-term durability was a focus of the specification, with the panel system supplied under a 30-year warranty. The upgrade helped the care home create cleaner, more practical bathroom spaces suited to everyday use in a residential care setting. EPD-certified and made using responsibly sourced materials, the panels also support care homes working toward lower carbon construction methods. ◼
