MONITORING & METERING

FLOW COMPUTER SUITS THE DEMANDS OF THE LIQUID HYDROCARBON AND GAS MEASUREMENT MARKETS

A

vailable from Ex-i Flow Measurement, the versatile SFC3000 flow computer is designed

to meet the needs of the worldwide liquid hydrocarbon and gas measurement markets. This can measure the flow rate of liquid hydrocarbons, water and petrochemical gasses,

as well as making CO2 emission measurements for pollution monitoring and control. Used in conjunction with turbine meters, this

provides accurate measurement of gas flow in networks, simplifying billing for suppliers, and can be used to monitor network flow load to ensure reliability of supply and maintain energy supply security, the company explains. The flow computer can be configured to meet a

wide range of applications and may be operated in a stand-alone single stream flow measurement system or as part of a highly complex multi-stream system. Simple firmware updates ensure the SCF3000 meets the latest measuring standards.

FEATURES Packaged in an industry standard half width 3U high 19” rack construction suitable for panel or chassis mount, the SFC3000 can accommodate up to six user plug-in cards and up to five measurement streams in the same chassis. Operating temperature ranges; PRT Inputs, -10˚C to 55˚C, Hart and 4-20mA Inputs -25˚C to 55˚C.

Operating humidity to 90% non- condensing and it meets environmental classes M2/E2. A range of options are available, providing systems integrators with flexible plug and play connectivity. These include: • Communication connection module 3000-502, which can be used for 5-way RS485 multi-drop, RS232 with and without twist, and Ethernet extension. Please refer to the manual for more details.

• Communication breakout module 3000-506 converts up to 4 RJ45 cable to 5-way screw terminals.

• I/O break out module 3000-503, can be used with digital IO 3000-314 or 3000-319 with a 3000-054 cable, or an analogue IO 3000-316 with either a 3000-055 or 3000-056 cable depending on functionality required.

• Custom I/O cables made to order, free end, 36 way with back shell and special. Free end cables are normally terminated using Ferrule crimps and unused wires can be supplied insulated with heat shrink tubing or removed.

• Alternative cable options are available, for example the back shell can be fitted the other way for different cable routing.

• A conformal coating option is available for complete units and all boards for use in harsh environments • 2GB SD Card, which can be used to store extra logged data.

• 19in rack option, allowing up to two SFC3000’s to be mounted in a single rack. Quarter panels are also available for use when a single SFC3000 is to be mounted in a rack. • Private labelling.

MONITORING RENEWABLE ENERGY GENERATION WITH SCADA SOFTWARE

Energy to provide local, low-cost renewable energy to its members. Emerson helps Holy Cross Energy manage four power plants delivering energy via solar, wind and battery storage to over 45,000 members, almost 52,000 households and 60,000 active meters with a peak load of approximately 300 megawatts. The customised Ovation Green SCADA software

Emerson’s Ovation Green supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) software is helping Holy Cross Energy operate, monitor and optimise renewable energy generation across four critical sites in Western Colorado. Holy Cross Energy plays a vital role in supporting the local economy by powering colleges, ranching operations, residential infrastructure and the tourism industry, including world-renowned resorts such as Vail and Aspen. The member-owned, not-for-profit electric cooperative supplies sustainable, reliable energy that aligns with the environmental values of its customers and maintains affordable, stable energy costs. Power purchase agreements (PPAs) with local renewable energy providers enable Holy Cross

at the Mamm Creek, High Mesa, Hunter and Bronco Plains II facilities are designed to deliver highly granular control so operators can manage plant performance in real time as well as set day-ahead and multi-day-ahead schedules for controlling the plants hour-by-hour. “Ovation Green SCADA software enables our operators to precisely manage production and optimally dispatch clean energy across our network,” said Phil Armstrong, the power supply manager at Holy Cross Energy. “Integrating data from diverse renewable assets and systems into a single platform has given us access to the insights needed to make critical business decisions. This unified operational view helps us optimise resources, meet member needs, monitor contractual obligations and performance requirements, and support real time market participation and forecasting.” To manage Holy Cross Energy’s renewable generation, operators use Emerson’s Ovation Green SCADA to control dispatch of power from the generation sites. Key performance indicator

dashboards, battery energy storage system schedulers, PPA and operational compliance dashboards and telemetry and downtime analysis in the software provide a high level of supervisory control over all assets and help users in the 24/7 centralised control centre better understand operations so they can best serve cooperative members. The software also enables the operations and business teams to quickly sift through large amounts of historical production data in different formats for use in billing, tracking and trending plant performance over time and understanding whether the plants are meeting the requirements of their contracts. “Member-focused organisations like Holy Cross Energy recognise the importance of seamless digital solutions to manage their complex, multi-faceted operations and provide key business insights,” said Bob Yeager, president of Emerson’s power and water solutions business. “Ovation Green software provides Holy Cross Energy with a single platform for full operational visibility across a variety of generation assets, as well as improved supervisory control to ensure they can continue to deliver the stable, sustainable energy their customers have come to anticipate.”
