LUMINES ARISE Tetsuya Mizuguchi’s answer to Tetris and Columns returns as his follow up to Tetris Effect: Connected, combining Lumines’ unique puzzle gameplay with a variety of bespoke music and art in what we can only describe as the sort of ‘sensory experience’ that no other game developer is really making anywhere else. You can also play this one in VR (if that’s your bag) but the team has been very keen to stress that it’s an optional feature.

KIRBY AIR RIDERS This not-quite-a-Kart-Racer by Kirby and Super Smash Bros. creator Masahiro Sakurai is the sequel to 2003’s Kirby Air Ride, which has (in our experience) always had a cult following of die-hard fans telling everyone they really need to check it out. We’ll be the first to admit that there’s not much fuel left in our tank for a third mascot racer this year (after the superb Mario Kart World and Sonic Racing CrossWorlds) but also can’t help but be curious about it… after all, Kirby and Sakurai have rarely steered us in the wrong direction before.

CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS 7 Treyarch and Raven Software are back with another Call of Duty game, which is set to scratch the multiplayer shooter itch in a variety of ways, including with a 4 player co-op story campaign starring Milo Ventimiglia. You’ll probably recognise him as Peter Petrelli from the show Heroes, or as Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls, depending on what kind of shows you were watching on television in the 00s. We hope he’s a compelling lead character, because we still haven’t quite forgiven Peter for leaving his Irish girlfriend Caitlin in a post-apocalyptic future back in 2007.
