INTERPACK REVIEW

BAKERY INNOVATION ACCELERATES AT

Kennedy’s Bakery Production explores how bakery exhibitors at interpack 2026 demonstrated a sector accelerating toward smarter inspection, fully connected production lines and engineering-led solutions designed to improve consistency, efficiency and food safety.

F

or seven days in May, Düsseldorf once again became the global meeting point for the processing and packaging industries as interpack

brought together equipment manufacturers, automation specialists and food producers seeking to modernise production systems. Within this ecosystem, bakery technology providers and inspection specialists presented a clear direction of travel: smarter, more connected and more configurable production lines capable of meeting rising demands for efficiency, compliance and flexibility. Across the halls, bakery-relevant exhibitors focused less on isolated machinery

improvements and more on system-wide integration. From dough preparation and baking to inspection and end-of-line packaging, the emphasis was firmly on reducing commissioning times, improving traceability and enabling real-time decision- making through connected digital platforms. A defining message across the sector was

that bakery manufacturing is increasingly being looked at as data architecture, software integration and digital simulation of production environments before physical deployment.

Rockwell Automation virtualises cookie production lines One of the most prominent bakery-focused digitalisation showcases came from Rockwell Automation, which presented a fully virtualised cookie production line developed with OEM partners. The demonstration, built using Emulate3D

digital twin technology, connected processing, baking and packaging stages into a single simulated environment. This allowed manufacturers to model production behaviour before physical installation, reducing commissioning risks and

accelerating time to first production. Rockwell emphasised that delays in aligning

processing and packaging systems can directly affect revenue generation and operational performance. By enabling early simulation of throughput and machine interaction, the system supports better decision-making during the engineering phase. Key focus areas included bottleneck identification, multi-vendor system integration and unified data environments that allow operators to monitor energy consumption, throughput and product quality across the entire line.

LOMA Systems strengthens bakery inspection capabilities Inspection specialist LOMA Systems showcased an expanded portfolio of X-ray, metal detection and checkweighing systems designed specifically for food and bakery applications. A key highlight was the X5DE Space Saver X-ray system, featuring dual-
